Hell yeah! But all engagement is not equal!

Ever see an Instagram business page with high-quality content but really low follow numbers and engagement? And then the reverse - pretty poor quality content, but decent follower numbers and great engagement?

The difference is probably proactive engagement. Chances are the latter are engaging with other Instagram accounts..... genuinely!

And GENUINE engagement is KEY - if you start the follow/unfollow game, trust me, the Instagram algorithm will penalise your account for it. It is cleverer than any of us!

Also, a real bugbear of mine is those people who like a whole bunch of posts on one of my accounts to get themselves noticed, hoping for a follow. Forget it. That's like coming over to me at a party, shouting in my face and walking away! I won't be asking you to meet for coffee any time soon!

Always keep in your mind that Social Media is just that 'SOCIAL' - It's where conversations happen, where you can find like-minded people and become 'virtual friends' - and that's how you should approach your engagement, you should focus on building relationships, not numbers.

I joined a really pertinent on discussion yesterday with the fabulous andreacallananvoice and emmavanheusen, where we talked about 'the importance of being busy'

Many of us on the chat came from corporate backgrounds, where the mentality of 'being busy = being successful' is ingrained. Being the last one at your desk at night shows dedication right?

Who hasn't been involved in a conversation that sniggers about a colleagues propensity to shoot out the office like a rabbit out of a trap at 5:30 pm on the dot every night? I know I have. I've probably even started some.

Heck as a Consultant, I was even targeted on being busy. X% of my time had to be delivering for a client, my diary was required to be open, so if there was a free slot in it, you could bet someone would be only too willing to fill it.

That mentality has stayed with me. If I'm not sat behind my laptop, I feel like I'm not busy and if I'm not busy all the time - I'm not working hard enough!

Sitting behind my laptop clearing down the 33k unread emails or messing about with logo's for half a day might make me feel dedicated, but it's not important, it's not growing my business, and it's taking away from the other things I want to do like go for a walk or spend time with the kids.

It's not like we don't know this right? The hard part is changing it. It's so ingrained and a comfortable place to be, but I learned a long time ago stretching out of my comfort zone is the best way to grow.

Too easily we can be knocked for six by a bad day.

I had a shocker a short while ago. Not a bad day, but a bad week.

Things happened that made me question every aspect of my life. Who I was as a person, a parent and a woman in business.

I picked myself up, dusted myself down and looked at my journey overall. So many successes. It would have been silly to let a few setbacks knock my confidence.

Remember, you can’t always control what happens, but you can control how you feel about it 💪 💕

We went for a big stomp with the dog. The lake was so still the reflections were like a mirror. Just stunning!

'Social' Media is about.... being social (surprise!). Starting and engaging in conversations. Imagine it like a party (remember those?) Just an online one.

So don't try to be the woman in the great dress across the room that's attracting lots of attention. That's her, not you and you won't be able to keep it up because it's not genuine.

Be you, that's your USP, have genuine conversations, turn up for your business and your business will turn up for you.

I keep being told I need to shout about my achievements more, so here I am!

I've been working in Social for a couple of years now, and it had long since been a goal of mine to upskill in the strategic (read dark) art of Facebook Ads.

Well, now I've done it... (go me!) I graduated from Emma Van Heusen's top-notch Facebook Adcelerator course in February this year, and am now working hard to put these new skills to good use!

They are the reason I never went back to my career after bringing them into the world, and they are the reason why I am pushing forward and starting again in my 40's. I am so grateful.

Happy Mother's Day to all the women in my life who have found themselves again after having children.
