What an incredible afternoon celebrating women in business with and at the Emirates! 🙌

Over 100 female founders from the f:Entrepreneurs programme in one place – sharing stories, supporting each other, and enjoying a few fancy drinks, fab food with a game of women’s football to boot… even if it wasn’t the result I wanted as a fan!

With fewer women starting businesses right now, spaces like this matter. Visibility, support and shared experience all make a difference.

I’ve been back to my publishing design roots recently, working on lots of reports that show the difference organisations are making – and (of course), they’re all designed to be beautifully on brand too. ​​​​​​​​

I might use a studio name for my business, but there is very much an Andrea behind Beehive Green!

These days, I’m balancing work life with family life (and plenty of dog walks), and pairing desk time with as much inspiration outside of the office as I can get.

Just the other week, I was making time for play and getting hands-on in the ‘AI can kiss my art’ workshop at – such a fun, hands-on session with a roomful of lovely creatives (thanks again, !).

Back to basics – and loving it.

At the start of the year, I made a simple decision: this year is all about clients.

It sounds obvious, but after a full-on year of award wins, exciting partnerships and behind-the-scenes work (think: events, special projects and training) – as well as all the life admin – I felt like the time was right to return to what I do best. Working deeply with the people and teams who trust me with their design challenges.

And so far? It’s been exactly the right move.

More time, more impact, more of the good stuff.

Do Valentine’s red and pink make you want to run and hide, or are you all for colours that leave no room for interpretation? ​​​​​​​​

You rarely see them together any other time of year, which is exactly why they send such a clear message. Red and pink = must be time to buy chocolates and roses. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Now, imagine your brand’s colours doing the same. Google, Cadbury, Ikea… we know them instantly just from their palettes. Why shouldn’t your audience recognise you just as fast?​​​​​​​​

Next time you scroll past a branded post, see if you know who it’s from before checking the name. Even better, ask people if they recognise you from your colours!​​​​​​​​

Last year I did.

In the nine years I’ve been working independently (figuring a lot of things out along the way), it’s the first time I’ve entered any awards.

Getting this recognition alongside businesses of all shapes and sizes is amazing – just goes to show that even as a company of one it’s worth putting yourself out there.

🌈 Pantone’s colour of the Year 2023 unveiled – it’s “Viva Magenta” 🌈

It’s a close match for the rust brand colour in the current brand identity I’m designing for a coaching organisation! ♥️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Despite the Magenta in the name, I love the warmth of red that shines through. To introduce this vibrant colour into a brand identity, it could be grounded by a wider palette. You just need to think about the personality you’d like your brand to convey!

says: “Viva Magenta writes a new narrative. Brave and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes optimism and joy. Powerful and empowering, it is an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint. Vibrating with vim and vigor, a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family demonstrating a new signal of strength.”

Viva Magenta is a gorgeous colour. I’ve actually been expecting a warm brown to be chosen for a few years now and this certainly has that natural feel 😉

There’s nothing quite like seeing your design work out in the wild.

I finally visited Maria and Fiona, founders of Hale & McCloy Design Ltd] , in their new showroom this month.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s the only time one of my logo designs has been hand-painted and gilded with 23ct gold leaf (great job ). It looks amazing! 😍

Branding is all about creating the right perception, for the right people.

And Hale & McCloy knew exactly what made their new business venture a winner.

A classic look was the only answer for this brand’s visual identity. A custom wordmark logotype, bespoke monogram, rich colour palette and a gorgeous typography system create a unified look.
