We see it time and time again, when things get tough, marketing is usually the first thing to go, and on the surface it makes sense because it feels like something you can pause without too much impact.
But in reality, marketing is the very thing that’s keeping everything else moving; bringing people in, keeping you visible - more so than your competitors - and being that consistent brand profiling tool that ensures your company is at the forefront of the next commercial decision.
So when it stops, things don’t necessarily always fall apart straight away, but they do start to slow, and picking that momentum back up later is usually harder than expected.
Not an easy call to make at all, but it’s one that’s worth sitting with a little longer, because what you pause today is what you’ll have to rebuild tomorrow.
