As a team, we have been fascinated watching NASA get ready to send Artemis 2 to the moon.
It will be the furthest anyone has ever travelled from Earth, which is incredible to think about when you consider what it would be like in a metal box 252,000 miles away from the nearest source of oxygen.
Since we throw the word 'launch' around so much in the digital space, and NASA’s Artemis 2 is launching tonight, we decided a rocket would be the perfect metaphor to visually explain what SEO activity actually consists of.
There are many business owners and stakeholders who still think about SEO like it’s a kind of boring dark art. With all the current chaos around AI and large language models, it is easy to see why someone might want to stick their head in the sand when it comes to thinking about it. But honestly, understanding SEO at its core isn’t a minefield. SEO activity can still be categorised using the traditional ‘Four Pillars of SEO’.
If your website is the rocket, here is how it works:
▪️ Technical SEO: This is the physical build. If your site isn't fast, secure, and structurally sound, you aren't getting off the launch pad.
▪️ On-site SEO: Your guidance and boost system. Getting your page structure and context right tells search engines exactly where you are aiming and boosts you towards it.
▪️ Content: The fuel. You need a deep tank of genuinely helpful, expert information to give your site the energy to move.
▪️ Off-site SEO: The ignition and acceleration. When other trusted, authoritative websites link back to you, it gives search engines the proof they need to launch you past the competition.
The daily work to pull this off successfully is both strategic and complex, but the combined objective is actually straightforward: give your visitors a brilliant, relevant digital experience, build a library of trusted content, and work towards becoming a genuine authority in your industry.
