Dawn walks in the New Forest. Torchlight stories and toasted marshmallows. A salty day by the sea. The tiny triumph of getting the tent back into its bag (hurrah indeed — mainly thanks to my mum and sister’s combined superpowers).

Finished a book, Train Dreams (I wept), filled a few pages of the sketchbook, and camped alongside the true locals: wild ponies, roaming cows, wonderfully cheeky donkeys… and one small frog who had apparently been taking shelter beneath our tent.

A few days of fresh air and simple things. Heavenly, wholesome, lucky to have such beauty only a short while away.

Also: sunburn. Don’t forget sunscreen, folks. Stay hydrated 🥵

Say hello to - a new identity.

It began on Little Minster Street, a stretch of Wi******er where the buildings lean just enough to let you know they’ve witnessed a few hundred years of life. Joanne’s studio sits among them: red brick, chalk-soft light, the steady rhythm of tools meeting metal. A place with its own sense of order, calm and the occasional whiff of deliciousness from the neighbours at The Old Vine.

The identity grew directly from that environment.
Two hand-drawn rings form the logo, each with a subtle irregularity you only get from the human hand.
The colour palette is extracted from Wi******er itself — brick, flint, weathered stone, with a wee nod to Cedric Morris for depth and accent.

Materials matter here: reclaimed textures, natural surfaces, and a visual language shaped by the bench rather than the boardroom.

But a brand world is more than its components.
It includes the way the signage meets the street, how the shop layout guides you without insisting, the rhythm of photography that balances clarity with warmth, and the website that allows the work to speak at its own pace. Every element connected; nothing superfluous.

Joanne’s approach made this possible. Her jewellery is thoughtfully made, honest in its construction, and grounded in the values of craft. She carried that same sensibility into the process, courageous with colour, meticulous in decisions, and hands-on in all the right ways.

If you’re in Wi******er, step off the High Street and follow the signs down to Little Minster Street. Inside, you’ll find a studio and shop designed for real use — a place to try pieces on, ask questions, and spend a moment in the company of things made slowly and with care.

This was a project shaped by place, material, and the person, the maker, at its centre.

I’m proud of what we built together. We hope you enjoy it too!

With love,
Laura xx

A little behind-the-scenes moment from Autumn Cultivate.

Julie at Madge & Ivy created the most thoughtful, quietly abundant scenes: late seasonal stems, softening foliage, worn baskets and those fading-yet-vivid colours that only arrive in autumn, a last, generous exhale before winter. I gathered her imagery and shaped it into layouts that feel a bit like opening a drawer of saved things.

We layered in vintage papers for texture: creases, thumbed edges, a hint of heritage and tucked botanical garden postcards between the spreads, small nods to the brand’s love of ephemera. Nothing loud (unless you count the dahlias and their irresistible need for attention). More like seed packets of story and place.

Grateful to Julie for the beauty she brought to each frame, and for the seasonal rituals that make the work feel like a kind of keeping.

The Autumn edition of Cultivate, written and photographed by the wonderful Julie has arrived.

This issue gathers stories of women growers, ties of friendship and the wonders of nature, with a beautiful interview with Eva Nemeth and a photo story tracing Yorkshire and her work at Serge Hill.

I loved working with Julie on the design of this edition, it feels grounded, generous, and human. Very much like Julie herself!

You can sign up via her website to receive the downloadable PDF, it’s a lovely thing to have with a cup of tea on an autumn afternoon. 🍂
