This 18 year old opened her a-level results and got CDN and rejected from every uni and drama school she’d applied to.

She’s also spent 30+ years working in an industry she loves, won awards for her work and represents her fellow indie PRs on a national level.

For those opening their results, please remember it’s just a piece of paper and does not have to define you or dictate your future.

I’m sadly no longer sat here. I’m instead sat at my desk, back from holiday, ready to hit the ground running. However, August, as usual, has other plans.

It’s giving “month of Sundays” energy. Wi******er’s packed with tourists, but my inbox is eerily quiet. And, with the UK heatwave in full swing, even I’m struggling to summon much urgency.

So to keep busy in what is always my quietest month of the year, I’ve been doing the things I never usually have time for, including some proper business reflection, catching up on admin, and, after years of putting it off, finally drafting a new website for my own business. Turns out the PR person’s website is always last on the list.

If you’re also finding August a bit of a ghost town, I’d love a coffee and a catch-up, no agenda, just good conversation (and probably a complaint about the heat).

And if you’re thinking about your comms strategy for the rest of the year, now’s genuinely a great time to talk. Come September, everyone’s back, calendars fill up fast, and I’ll be busy again before you know it.

Get in touch, my diary (and my inbox) has never been so open. 👋

The Rocket Launch office will close tomorrow for one week. As a PR, there never really is an off switch so, I will be fully contactable (and operational) for my clients. However this is a little message for them 😆

Sometimes it can get a little heated in the kitchen and today was no exception Wi******er cookery school

Award winning chefs Jay and Gary from Wi******er cookery school hosted the infamous
Dutton Gregory duo Andrew and Darren who went head to head to raise the winning prize- bragging rights for their podcast that’s coming later this Summer. I’ll let them share who was the proud winner!

The hero of their dishes included Chalkstream Trout and juicy Isle of Wight Tomatoes - all ingredients being sourced within a 25mile radius from the Wi******er HQ.

As proud sponsors of A Taste of Wi******er , Dutton Gregory often talk about being ‘fiercely independent’ and aim to raise the profile of the Taste of Wi******er festival and local hospitality businesses that make Wi******er so unique…

Check out the socials for more updates.

Thanks for the lovely invite to observe the kitchen antics- good to see Wi******er BID Martin Tod and Hampshire Chronicle on the judging panel… plus RCM behind the professional cameras with local lovelies Emma Emma - Wi******er Eats , Roger Experience Hampshire and Kelly ******erfork cheering the chefs along.

It was a stunning venue and who doesn’t love a local collab, perfectly conducted by the awesome Miranda Rocket Launch who may have missed her vocation in life! Watch out Ainsley Harriet!

Yes please to more local collabs and cheers to an awesome A Taste of Wi******er festival!

Well, May was flipping brilliant...

It was a pleasure attending ’s Annual Vision Summit with so much great energy in the room. It’s been wonderful to be working alongside , supporting Léonie Jackson and her brilliant marketing team.

May brought weather at both extremes. From glorious sunny days at the vineyard to lighting candles overnight to guard against frosts. , Lara and I had an immense day at the , selling out of rosé before lunch! We also caught some exciting pre-launch events at The Candover, which is stunning and well worth your visit!

Congratulations to on welcoming to North Fields House, love the photo of Liam Newton in action by .

I had the best day in London, being named in the Independent Impact 50, for the second time (thank you Rod Cartwright & Nigel Sarbutts). It was wonderful to meet so many of the CIPR Independent Practitioner Network committee in person, especially my Coffee Break co-host Natalie Trice. More celebrations and afternoon tea followed with my oldest PR pals Nicki Hulbert-Smith, Katie Marlow and Sarah Miles for a very special birthday 🍰.

The ******er calendar (22 June – 5 July) is filling up fast. The finale on 5 July is going to be something very special for locals - 250 guests, fantastic dishes from local restaurants, and a lunch worth putting in the diary now.

And finally, I have reached nine months of running every day, including some very early starts this month to beat the heatwave 🏃‍♀️.

The ******erbid team knew the best way to deal with the heat - , Sarah Davis and I love a trip to 🍦.

June is going to be very busy again, but I wouldn’t want it any other way ❤️ .

How was your weekend? Mine was really busy, again!

I was out in the early hours of Saturday lighting candles in the vineyard as we wage a war against the frosts. Then on Sunday I worked the Candover Brook stall with and Lara at the sublime Alesford .

What a brilliant crowd who love Candover Brook as much as we do. In fact they quickly cleared us out of our Rosé NV and we sold many bottles and cases of the Brut NV too. A great day 🥂, just sad there was no time to wander round and see all our other local producer friends.

Thank you Sarah from for helping us out with extra tasting cups! 💚

About last night...

I’m a little jaded today as my phone rang at 1.45am with a call to arms. As well as looking after PR for award-winning English Sparkling Wine, , I am a volunteer in the Frost Watch team. So on went the layers, most importantly the gloves, and we headed to the vineyard to light giant vegetable wax candles to help raise the temperature around the vines to stop the buds from freezing.

The sounds are incredible. The torches firing up, the crackle of the candles, and the owls cheering us on overhead. The job done, the vineyard looking stunning, we celebrated our work with a quick nip of whisky before returning to our beds.

Another hardy team of volunteers were in the vineyard at 7am to s***f out the candles as we brace ourselves for the risk of another frost tonight.

Above and beyond the call of a PR? Absolutely not!
Supporting clients at every step of the journey and getting stuck in is what I love, whatever it takes, whatever the hour, to make sure a crisis never gets the chance to happen.

To be named in the Independent Impact 50 last year was a career-defining moment. To make Indie’s Oscars cut again this year was an unexpected joy and an enormous honour.

Standing in a room full of PR legends watching fellow winners arrive, it felt like being at the Traitors’ breakfast. Who wasn’t coming back this year? Spoiler alert: I survived. And what a privilege to be among such talented, experienced, brilliant people. Every conversation reminded me why I love this industry.

I was asked to give a speech, which I deliberately didn’t prepare, worrying about it would have made my nerves worse and stopped me enjoying the celebratory afternoon tea. The result was less seasoned PR pro, more wannabe Butlins camp comic. But I hope the message landed.

These awards, created by Rod Cartwright and Nigel Sarbutts and supported by 72Point, matter. The industry is changing and the number of independent practitioners is growing. We are not just a cheap alternative to an agency or a temporary replacement for an in-house team. Most in that room had at least a decade in the game, simply seeking an alternative to corporate life, the freedom to choose whom we work with and when.

These awards celebrate that. They make us feel seen, heard and part of something bigger. And for someone who started out as a lonely freelancer more than 20 years ago, that means more than I can say.

A huge thank you to my clients, who used my nomination to say some genuinely lovely things about me. You don’t often get feedback as an independent, so it was wonderful to hear that you like what I do and that I’m making a positive impact on your businesses. That’s why I do this ☺️ .

Well done to all the team for a brilliant launch last night. Some say you shouldn’t throw events on a Friday and yet it was a packed house at . The place was choc full of the best creatives in our city and some of my favourite people.

I’m going back for a better look at the Creative Wi******er Exhibition which showcases work of some of our most respected creative businesses and the 24-hour design challenge which saw professionals and design students come together to work on project for the homeless.

This weekend you can also pop in and see inside many of their studios too. Check out for more details.
