We've printed a run off for Adrian Thompson-Boyce’s lovely ‘King Protea’ charcoal. The background matches the paper colour of the original artwork in this version but we are sometimes asked to whiten or shade a plain background to suit a taste or market.

Chuffed that all three Prograf printers are matching perfectly despite the move and now being driven by Apple instead of Microsoft. We have custom profiles per paper and printer to make sure your art prints match the original no matter what paper or printer is used, giving us maximum flexibility and efficiency during busy print runs.

And so it begins...

Well we had a very busy weekend setting up the new kit in the workshop here at Dreambase Studios. So much to think about as usual but, dare I say it, settling down enough for me to do a quick update post.

Here are a few hastily taken images, including the ‘official’ hand-over handshake between Gordon, owner of Skylight Publishing and I, having acquired his wonderful business in all but name. Also the obligatory large format printers, plan chests, easel, some of the art papers (from ); and a computer screen (haven’t we had enough of them?!).

We’ve hit the ground running with pre-existing orders from our regular clients and lots of meetings set up to discuss forthcoming exhibitions and the reproduction of artists new work.

We’re really looking forward to working with many of Gordon’s existing client base along with new artists, galleries and agents from the Cotswolds and beyond.

So far, so good.

Despite being a media production company since 2008 I often get calls from new customers who mistakenly think that Dreambase Studios is a photography or graphic arts setup. So it’s kind of ironic that today I want to announce that we have acquired renowned fine art printing and photography company, Skylight Publishing. I’ve always had a passion for fine art and after 25-odd years working in film and media production this seems like a perfect fit and logical next step for me and the company. And it fulfils a long held ambition of mine.

This does mean some BIG changes here at Dreambase HQ. We will no longer be providing long-form sound design and location sound recording services for film and tv projects. However, we will continue to provide sound design and location sound recording services for short-form projects for the foreseeable future.

I will hugely miss the camaraderie that comes from working as crew on films and commercials. The cast and crew that I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years have been awe-inspiring and I’ve learnt so much about my craft and about myself by working alongside those wonderful folk.

This does not mean I’m giving up sound entirely. Music writing and sound production will become more of a ‘side hustle’ and I’m continuing the screenplay writing.

So, if anyone is looking for fine art Giclée printing and photography services then do give me a shout as I endeavour to make new circles in the fine art industry.

My mobile recording kit sitting on some moss somewhere. I’m a long time Zaxcom user and love the flexibility and integration of the recorder, receivers, transmitters and camera hops. It just works and the sound quality is fantastic. Also in this pic are the standard Sennheiser HD25 headphones which are a super reference, very light weight and tough as hell. And Sennheiser transmitters (often 2) sending mixes to my boom op, director, 1stAD, focus puller, execs, passers by….! The Audioroot power system is brilliant and allows me to keep an accurate eye on power levels through the day. The sound bag pre-dates the Zaxcom stuff but very comfy to wear and, if it ain’t broke… Add to this some mics for the boom poles and load of lav mics and accessories and we are ready for sound capture on any location for features, tv shows, commercials, you name it!

VERY LATE NEWS (by 2 months!) but a film we did the sound design on is now available on Paramount+. The Shamrock Spitfire is a heartfelt drama based on a true story. Directed by the Higgins brothers of and produced by .davey_filmmaker and . If you want to hear lots of Spitfire sounds coming at you from all directions, coupled with a story of love, loss and true spirit check it out!
