You don’t have long to grab the attention of your website audience, so ensuring your home page is geared for success is vital.
Here are my 5 elements that every home page must contain.
1️⃣ Clear and Compelling Call-to-Actions (CTAs)
Your home page must feature strategically placed CTAs that guide visitors towards taking specific next steps, such as:
✅ Getting a quote
✅ Making a purchase
✅ Booking a call
✅ Requesting a call back
✅ Signing up for a newsletter
✅ Booking a consultation
Once you have decided what call to actions you need on your website, then ensure you apply these principles:
Have at least 2 different call to actions on your home page
✅ Include them more than once
✅ Don’t make them boring (entice your audience and 'contact us' does not do this!)
✅ Make them visually appealing
2️⃣ Customer Proof
Having your happy customers shouting about how great you are is a must on your home page. Nothing boosts your credibility more than this.
You can:
✅ Showcase testimonials
✅ Feed reviews from platforms like Google
✅ Include links to case studies
✅ Feature video testimonials
Customer proof is a 100% must!
3️⃣ Engaging Visual Content
They say that you have between 3 and 5 seconds to grab the attention of your website visitor. That is not long!
One way to help do this is to focus on capturing attention with high-quality visual elements. Lots of websites now have banner videos on their home page, and this is the first thing people see when they arrive on the website.
Of course, high-quality images can also help achieve these. I am talking high-quality and not blurry photos from your iPhone or cheap stock images. Make sure you spend time getting the right images together that show you are a professional business delivering a high-quality product or service.
4️⃣ Make the main thing the main thing
Too many website home pages are overcomplicated. Not enough focus is given to making the main thing the main thing.
Ensure your website's home page clearly communicates what you are about. If you are selling shoes, then make it immediately clear that this is what you sell and make it easy for people to buy them. Your home page needs to help make this happen.
5️⃣ Navigation and User-Friendly Design
Google are putting more and more emphasis on the user journey on your website, and this all starts on the home page.
Ensure that you prioritise user experience by ensuring your home page features simple navigation, clear menu options, and a clean, organised layout.
✅ Don’t confuse with too many clicks
✅ The simpler the better
✅ Use white space to give a clean look and feel
✅ Make it super easy for people to contact you
✅ Again, make the main thing the main thing (keep it simple)
Please don’t cut corners when it comes to your home page.
Take a fresh look at your home page and see if these 5 key components are present. If not, look to get these improved or included.
There is no better day to take action than today
