Happy 21st birthday and a proverbial key to the door to my dearest daughter Katya. She’s just finished her degree and is off to Canada next week, so it’s all very exciting. I am a lucky man to be her dad and to have knocked about with her for last 21 years (with many to come hopefully). It’s been a lot of fun x

Equity members. It’s voting time again and I am standing again for the Audio Committee, which I’ve chaired for the last two years. We’ve done some good work in the last few years on Ai, on rates (good stuff coming very soon), on audio drama and holding the BBC to account and on games. It’s a non stop roller coaster and the committee needs a deep understanding of the markets, the law and the work to be productive. There are fifteen candidates for nine seats. We desperately need a mix of continuity, as the issues are too complex to pick up quickly, as well as new blood. Voting deadline is 4th July Please share.

The Revolution is Not an Apple. My daughter’s final project and her degree show at LCC (Photography), which is on from the 15th-19th of May at LCC. Private view 15th

“…an examination of revolution, as understood by Western youth today. Using videography, audio, photography, text and artefacts, the project stages an imaginary revolution, with peers playing the role of revolutionaries. The project’s aim is to provoke debate about the privatisation of desire and politics.

The project argues that the causation of inner turmoil is rooted in our inability to both identify and act against social injustice, which is increasingly in the hands of commerce rather than politics. The project calls for the reinstatement of a collective mindset, and proposes that the fetishisation and promotion of individualism has been instrumental in both breaking up and breaking down society.”

So there we go. The value of an art degree? I’ve watched my daughter go from being a young woman with an interest in photography, philosophy and politics to a young women who can call herself an artist, with a practice and a voice. Very proud.
