Nigerian becomes the First Black Woman to Earn PhD in Robotics at University of Michigan.

🎓🤖 Breaking New Ground: Meet Dr. Wami Ogunbi — A Robotics Trailblazer!

At the ✨strict young age for doctoral achievement, Dr. Wami Ogunbi made history as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Robotics from the University of Michigan (UMICH).

🔍 Here’s what sets her apart:

Her PhD research focused on developing a stair-climbing algorithm for underactuated bipedal robots—a significant contribution to robotics and human-machine interaction.

She didn’t stop there. In her post-doctoral work, she’s expanding that algorithm and created the “Biped Bootcamp”, a technical teaching module designed to make robotics accessible to students from diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Ogunbi is also the daughter of Nigerian immigrants and brings rich cultural background + academic excellence into her mission of diversifying STEM and robotics.

🚀 Her achievement is more than personal—it leads the way for others, lifts the barrier for Black women in robotics & shows that innovation happens when inclusion thrives.

👏 Congratulations, Dr. Wami Ogunbi! Your journey inspires and your next steps will no doubt change the future of robotics and STEM education.

At $2.58 per megabit, Ghana's fixed broadband cost isn't just a line item on a bill; it's a globally significant anomaly. We are number one in Africa for the highest prices and number two in the world.

So, let's strip it down. What is the precise anatomy of this problem?

Forget the global picture for a moment and look next door. How can our neighbours in Ouagadougou or Niamey, who are geographically disadvantaged and must pay for transit across our territory, even begin to compete on price, let alone potentially beat us? It makes no sense.

Everything you’ve been shown about Africa is a lie.

The algorithm keeps feeding us poverty, despair, and broken images. But that’s not the whole story.

Africa is powerful, beautiful, thriving and full of life that they’ll NEVER put on your feed.

This video is here to break those stereotypes and show you the side of Africa they don’t want you to see.

PaidHR, a Nigerian startup that helps businesses manage their HR functions, has raised a $1.8 million seed round. The round completes PaidHR’s initial fundraising, which began with a $1.5 million target first reported by TechCabal in October 2024.

PaidHR plans to deepen its market share within Nigeria, accelerate product development, and expand its customer success teams with the latest round of funding. The investment was led by Accion Venture Lab, with participation from existing investors Zrosk, Chui Ventures, and Zedcrest Capital.

The new funding round brings PaidHR’s total investment to about $2.9 million. The HR-tech startup raised $500,000 pre-seed in 2022 and an additional $600,000 in 2023.

If you say "please" and "thank you" to ChatGPT, you're not alone— but it might be costing OpenAI more than you'd expect. CEO Sam Altman said that polite users add to electricity costs, with extra responses leading to “tens of millions of dollars” in power use.

Each friendly reply you get from ChatGPT is powered by large, energy-hungry data centers. These centers use tons of electricity, not just for computing, but also for cooling the machines.

Still, Altman seems to think it’s worth it. He believes natural, human-like conversations are part of what makes AI valuable—even if it means higher energy bills.

So go ahead and be polite. As Altman put it, it’s “tens of millions of dollars well spent.”
