On Tuesday, 21st July 2026, ACT Ghana, in collaboration with the Adaptation, Climate Resilience and Risk Management Unit under the Climate Change and Ozone Directorate of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Ashiaman Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), organized a capacity-building training for approximately 90 NADMO officers from all seven zones within the municipality.

The training focused on Climate Science and Disaster Risk Reduction, Ghana’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and Gender and Social Inclusion in Disaster Preparedness, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen local disaster preparedness and climate resilience.

Ms. Esther Mireku, Assistant Programme Officer at the EPA, facilitated the session on Climate Science, Disaster Risk Reduction, and the National Adaptation Plan, while Ms. Esenam Adzo Norgbey Apawu, Executive Director of ACT Ghana, led the session on Gender and Social Inclusion in Disaster Preparedness, emphasizing the importance of inclusive approaches that leave no one behind.

As climate-related disasters become more frequent and severe, building the capacity of frontline disaster management officers is essential to enhancing preparedness, reducing vulnerabilities, and protecting lives and livelihoods.

Climate education is not a side issue. It is part of our climate infrastructure.” — Nana Dr. Antwi-Boasiako Amoah, Chair of the African Group of Climate Change Negotiators (AGN).

At SB64, the AGN Chair delivered a timely reminder that climate action is not only about finance, technology, adaptation plans, or early warning systems. It is about people. It is about ensuring that communities have the knowledge, skills, and capacity to understand climate risks, make informed decisions, and actively contribute to solutions.
This vision resonates strongly with the work of ACT GHANA.

For us, climate education is more than awareness creation, it is empowerment. It is equipping young people, women, communities, and future leaders with the tools to navigate a changing climate, champion local solutions, and participate meaningfully in decision-making processes that affect their lives and livelihoods.

Across Africa, building resilience requires more than infrastructure and investments; it requires informed citizens who can translate knowledge into action. As climate challenges continue to evolve, climate learning must become a lifelong journey that reaches classrooms, communities, boardrooms, and policy spaces alike.

Today, ACT GHANA joins the global community in celebrating World Oceans Day and recognizing the critical role oceans play in sustaining life, livelihoods, and climate resilience.

Our oceans are more than vast bodies of water—they serve as natural buffers against storms, flooding, and coastal erosion while supporting biodiversity, food security, and economic development. As climate change continues to intensify, advancing Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is essential for protecting vulnerable communities and ecosystems.

Healthy marine and coastal ecosystems, including mangroves, wetlands, and coral reefs, help reduce disaster risks, strengthen resilience, and support sustainable development. Their protection and restoration are key to securing a safer future for both people and nature.

At ACT GHANA, we are committed to championing nature-based solutions, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience initiatives that empower communities to adapt to a changing climate while reducing disaster risks.

HAPPY WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY!

"Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."

Today, June 5, 2026, we mark the close of an incredible week of action.

ACT GHANA, in partnership with the Forestry and Climate Change Petals of the Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (Youth-NREG) Platform, convened by the Strategic Youth Network for Development (SYND), took World Environment Day to the classrooms.

From June 2–5, 2026, we engaged students across the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality and beyond, visiting:

1. Presec Staff '1' Basic School
2. S.D.A '1' Basic School
3. S.D.A '2' Basic School
4. Queen of Peace RC 'A' Basic
5. Demonstration Basic School
6. Avatime Senior High School (Volta Region)

Together, we reached a TOTAL of 1865 students, sparking conversations on Climate Change, Environmental Sustainability and Individual actions to protect our planet

Because the future belongs to the youth and the youth ARE the future.

In exploring partnerships for sustainable and inclusive development, we had a strategic engagement with the Education Director of La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, Mr. Philip Aidoo, to strengthen conversations and action around climate education and disaster risk reduction.

The meeting focused on the importance of equipping young people and school communities with the knowledge, awareness, and resilience needed to respond to growing climate and environmental challenges.

As climate impacts continue to affect communities globally, building local partnerships and integrating climate and disaster risk education into learning spaces remains critical to shaping informed, prepared, and empowered generations.

Ms Esenam Adzo Norgbey Apawu, Executive Director of AdzoCuraTerra (ACT), participated in the Specialisation Course on Environmental Peace-building at the Austrian Centre for Peace, Schlaining – Vienna.

The course, run by the ACP under the International Civilian Peacebuilding Training Programme, explores how environment and climate change intersect with peace and security.

For ACT, it is a valuable opportunity to strengthen our approach to linking climate action with peacebuilding and community resilience in Ghana.
