Rising Afro-Fusion Artist MC New Headlines “Echoes of Our Heritage” Special on Afronovaradio.
ACCRA, GHANA — In a vibrant broadcast dedicated to the preservation and promotion of African identity, Afronovaradio recently hosted rising Afro-fusion star MC New for a deep dive into his musical journey and the ambitious Pan-African project, “Echoes of Our Heritage.”
The broadcast, characterized by a fusion of high-energy beats and thoughtful cultural discourse, served as a platform for MC New to showcase his latest tracks, including the rhythmic love song and the self-empowerment anthem “ Dzi Dzɔ Kpɔ Kpɔ .”
A Voice for the “Up-and-Coming”
During the interview, MC New ( Born Martin Corku Agbenavor ) spoke candidly about the “rocky road” faced by independent artists in Ghana. Navigating the conversation in a mix of English and Pidgin, he addressed the economic hardships currently felt on the streets, noting that “money matters” are the primary concern for the youth.
“As an up-and-coming artist, the road be very rocky,” MC New shared. “Unless you are in the limelight, you don’t enjoy the appreciation you expect. We need more support for those of us without big record labels to polish our craft.”

Despite these challenges, MC New’s music remains a celebration of African diversity. A polyglot who speaks Twi, Ewe, English, and Ga, he seamlessly integrates these dialects into his songs—a feat the host praised for its “command over the local vibration.” https://ditto.fm/mc-new-alogboshie
Echoes of Our Heritage: A Call to Artists
A focal point of the broadcast was the “Echoes of Our Heritage” project, presented by KA Hypercon Entertainment. The initiative is a massive Pan-African collaboration seeking to unite the continent through music, traditional rhythms, and indigenous instruments.
The project details include:
Submission Period: February 1st to March 15th, 2026.
Requirements: Artists are encouraged to submit demos that embody the theme of “Africa Unite.”
Prizes: All-expenses-paid trips to three African countries, recording deals, and significant cash prizes.
Ghanaian Auditions: Local artists can secure their spot by purchasing the official project t-shirt for 300 Ghana Cedis.
MC New expressed his excitement for the movement, suggesting that such initiatives are the “baton” that must be passed to the next generation to achieve the liberation envisioned by leaders like Kwame Nkrumah.
From Love Songs to Continental Unity
The artist also shared the philosophy behind his hit, “Dzi Dzɔ Kpɔ Kpɔ,” explaining that happiness must come from within rather than from external substances. “I’m stronger than the madness,” he sings, a message he hopes will act as a campaign against drug abuse among the youth.
As the show concluded with a tribute to African women in the song “Mama Africa,” the host reminded listeners that building the continent requires active support for local talent.

Shaggy Mensah: The Ewe Voice Bridging Tradition and Afropop

Shaggy Mensah, birth named Womoakor Mensa, comes from Anloga in Ghana’s Volta Region but now calls Accra home. His musical journey began at the age of five. “Most of the melodies I made back then sounded like I was crying,” he recalls with a smile, “but they were my form of rebellion. Laughter is the sound of joy, and my songs were my way of creating that joy for those I loved.”

Like many musicians, his first stage was the church. He often represented his school in choir competitions, steadily discovering the strength of his own voice. “My inspiration comes from the talent I possess as an artist. It drives me because it’s the one thing no one can take away from me,” he says.

Although Afropop remains his signature sound, Shaggy’s versatility cuts across the full spectrum of African music. He fuses Ewe folk songs with contemporary Afropop, blending the traditional and the modern in a seamless flow that keeps his fans dancing. Over the past twenty years, he has performed across several African countries and collaborated with renowned artists such as Sarkodie, Edem, and 4×4.

His career, however, has not been without pain. One of his darkest moments came when he lost his manager in a road accident after a concert in Togo. “It felt like losing my right hand,” he says quietly. Yet from that grief emerged a deeper sense of purpose in his art.

Today, Shaggy Mensah’s music carries a message centered on love, unity, and social awareness. Songs like Egblegedi and Deviametsi O speak to life’s realities, addressing issues such as teenage pregnancy and community challenges. His sound, rooted in experience and guided by emotion, continues to echo across stages and hearts, bridging past and present, sorrow and joy.
