MOBILE MONEY IN AFRICA- 2020
Data presented by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) indicated that the mobile money industry globally provided a safer route for cash transactions, payments for daily necessities and conducting business in person in a year where COVID-19 largely stimulated a variety of actions, from workplace closures to restrictions on movement to complete lockdown.

The GSMA report titled "State of the Industry Report on Mobile Money 2020" showed Africa leading the industry with maximum figures in live services, registered accounts, active accounts, transaction volume and transaction value.

This week’s African STEM Woman is South Africa’s baratangmiya . She is the Founder and CEO of (Women Who Code).

GirlHype (Women Who Code) is a not-for-profit organization that teaches girls and young women about programming and app development.

It runs a Clubs Program in which females in grades 6-12 can attend free after-school classes to learn about coding in a pleasant and friendly environment.

Miya's purpose as a self-taught coder is to encourage, nurture, and develop women and girls from underprivileged backgrounds and underrepresented groups to pursue professions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

She is one of a growing number of women working to close the gender gap in technology.
