In 2014, I enrolled at Milton Keynes College to study an Access to Higher Education course as the first step towards achieving my dream of going to university. Through determination and perseverance, I gained admission to Middlesex University for the 2016/2017 academic year.
The journey was far from easy. My Student Finance application was rejected because I did not meet the funding criteria. Without financial support, I struggled to access learning materials and many of the university resources both online and on campus. There also came a point when I had to find somewhere else to live.
At the lowest point in my life, my girlfriend—who is now my wife—became my greatest source of strength. Although we were both young and had very little, she paid my rent, provided for my daily needs, and gave me the encouragement to keep going. She never allowed me to believe that my dreams were out of reach.
Determined not to abandon my education, I contacted the European Student Loans Company in Glasgow to explore my options. They agreed to fund my tuition fees, although no maintenance loan was available. Even then, it was my wife’s sacrifices and support that enabled me to continue my studies.
We got married in 2017 and moved into military accommodation. During her pregnancy with our first child, while I was in my second year at Middlesex University, she travelled with me to London on my university days so I could attend lectures and continue working towards my degree. She carried not only our child but also the weight of my ambitions, never complaining and never asking me to give up.
Today, when people look at my achievements, they see the degrees, the professional qualifications, the military service, the research, and the success. What they do not always see is the woman behind every one of those accomplishments.
Every academic qualification I have earned, every milestone I have reached, and every success I have achieved in life has been made possible because of her unwavering love, sacrifice, encouragement, and belief in me. She invested in my future when I had little to offer in return. She believed in me when circumstances were difficult, and she stood firmly beside me through every challenge.
She has never tried to control my decisions or discourage my ambitions. Instead, she has always inspired me to dream bigger, work harder, and remain focused on my purpose. Her quiet strength has been the foundation upon which I have built my life.
If I stand where I am today, it is because she stood behind me when I had nothing. If I have achieved academic success, it is because she sacrificed so I could remain in school. If I have become the man I am today, it is because she never stopped believing in me.
No words can fully express my gratitude. My wife is not only my life partner but also the cornerstone of every success I have enjoyed. I dedicate all my academic achievements and every success in my life to her. Her love changed my life, and I will forever be grateful for the incredible woman she is.
