Working with a graphic designer shouldn’t feel like decoding a mystery. But for many clients, it does.
As a designer, I’ve seen how great projects stall simply because expectations aren’t aligned from the start. So I put together a quick guide to help clients get the most out of working with a designer, whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth.
Here are a few key takeaways:
✅ Be clear on your goals, not just your preferences. Saying "make it pop" is fine, but explaining what you're hoping to achieve with the design is even better.
✅ Share examples, but don’t expect copies. References help us understand your taste, but good design is always custom-fit to your brand and message.
✅ Trust the process. Revisions are normal. Collaboration is where the magic happens, not in the first draft.
✅ Respect the timeline. Rushed feedback or unclear direction can delay results and affect quality.
If you're thinking of hiring a designer soon—or if you've worked with one before, I'd love to hear your experience. What worked well? What would you do differently?
Let’s make client-designer partnerships smoother and more effective.
