. Welcome to the village of Katchang, a village with 3 different names ( Darasu, sibikoreh and dabanani ).
Katchang is one of the biggest village located in North Bank Region of The Gambia in upper badibou district and its off road from Illiassa village towards the river Gambia which is called Katchng tenda and opposite to tendaba camp on the other side of the river Gambia π¬π².
The Village of Katchang is consists of 7 different area, they are beydibano, beydikunto, dutabakono, Faye bolong, nyekul street, Ba dumo and balankula. The wards of the village are kassama k***a kabilo, kabba k***a kabilo, baddibou kala kabilo and tilibun kala. The village have lots of historic places which comprises of Kasey taba, Mani kolong sita, bato sita, luntagi taba, sukoto taba, duwa taba, timiyasin, kali banta, chali banta, nyasin mberey.
The village is Surrounded by beautiful Hills, valleys and rivers. A farming community of hard working people, religious society, rich in culture and harmonious coexistence environment. Well structured town plan layout with stretch streets across the village entirely. Komulati, basung, mbankuma, sutuInland are some of the bushes and swamp rice fields are sututo, bandey kolong, kunkudala, wasafari etc. The riverside of the village are Ada tendala, basung tendala, Jensonko, ketimusala, yinki yinki, salandinto etc.
Katchang village is consists of around 104 compounds and have primary school, nursery School and 2 Arabic schools and a minor health center built by the villagers. Majority of members involved in farming in the rain season, the main crops are coos, rice and groundnuts, the women special in gardening during the dry season. There is less than a kilometer from the river called katchang tenda and there are fishermen who normally fish along the bolongs of th river gambia.
The village is famous for wrestling and there are traditional singers, an interesting drummer using drum locally called "daaba" with his female singers especially during naming ceremonies and pay visit to special visitors and transmitted informations using drum in the village. A village that worth to Visit and learn so many interesting thing about rural Gambia π¬π².
