◦ Agia Theodoti is a tranquil beach on the northeastern coast of Ios, known for its serene atmosphere and natural scenery. Located about 10 km from the main town of Chora, it offers a peaceful retreat away from the island's more crowded beaches. Despite being one of the largest beaches on Ios, its somewhat remote location means it rarely gets crowded, even during peak season. The long stretch of beach features golden, granular sand mixed with some pebbles. Its turquoise, crystal-clear waters are clean and ideal for swimming.

The beach is set in a large bay framed by hills and vegetation, providing a wild and unspoiled feel. The beach is relatively protected, but being on the northeast coast, it can be exposed to the strong meltemi north winds in the summer. The beach gets its name from a 16th-century Byzantine church built on the hillside above. The church, one of the oldest on the island, was constructed on the ruins of an ancient temple.

◦ Hidden within the Liveros Bay, near Kalotaritissa Beach on the southwest coast of Amorgos, lies the shipwreck of Olympia — a relic of both nature’s power and maritime history. The Olympia began its life in 1950, built in Goole, England, and originally named Inland. Over the years, it changed owners and names, becoming Strymon in 1975 and finally Olympia in 1979. In February 1980, while attempting to find shelter from fierce northern winds, the ship tried to anchor in Liveros Bay. The weather worsened, the anchor failed to hold, and the Olympia was driven violently against the coastal rocks. Despite the dramatic wreck, the entire crew survived, rescued from the raging sea.

Today, the ship’s rusting hull rests half-submerged in the turquoise waters of the bay. Its skeletal frame, now part of the landscape, tells a story of man and sea, survival and decay. The Olympia still bears faint traces of its earlier name, Inland, across the bow, while the salt and waves continue to shape its transformation into an otherworldly sculpture of iron and time.

The wreck gained cinematic fame when it appeared in Luc Besson’s 1988 film The Big Blue, immortalizing its ghostly beauty and giving it a place in modern Greek iconography. Photographers and travelers are drawn here for the contrast — rusted steel against blinding blue sea, wild cliffs against calm skies — a scene that seems both tragic and serene.

◦ Plathiena beach on Milos is a relatively secluded beach located on the northern side of Milos Island, just a few kilometers from the picturesque village of Plaka. The beach is known for its fine golden sand, mixed with small pebbles in parts, and its turquoise waters that are shallow near the shore and deepen gradually—perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and families with children. Because the bay is protected, the sea is usually calm, though strong northern winds (the meltemi) can occasionally bring small waves.

Plathiena offers a mix of natural and organized comfort. There are tamarisk trees providing bits of natural shade, as well as sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. Getting to Plathiena requires a short drive from Plaka or via a scenic dirt road from Firopotamos. There’s a small parking area near the beach, but it can fill up during the high season, so visiting earlier in the day is recommended.

One of Plathiena’s biggest highlights is its spectacular sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon, the entire bay and surrounding cliffs are bathed in warm golden light, creating a stunning view across the Aegean—especially toward Antimilos Island. Many visitors stay until evening to enjoy this magical sight.

◦ The Acropolis of Ancient Arkasa is one of the most important archaeological sites located on the island of Karpathos. It stands on the hill called Palaiokastro, overlooking the modern village of Arkasa and the Aegean Sea. This naturally fortified hill was ideal for settlement and defense, and its ruins reveal a long and layered history of occupation, from prehistoric to Byzantine times.

The origins of the site go back to the Mycenaean era, when the first fortifications were likely constructed using massive stones typical of Mycenaean “cyclopean” walls. The acropolis continued to be used through the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods, serving as one of the principal cities of ancient Karpathos. Today, visitors to the Acropolis of Ancient Arkasa can see the remains of ancient fortification walls, towers, building foundations, water cisterns, and church ruins.

The significance of the Acropolis of Ancient Arkasa lies in its continuity of habitation, strategic position, and cultural layers. Unlike many Greek beaches with fine sand, Gerolimenas has a pebbly shore, so water shoes might be a good idea. The bay is relatively sheltered, resulting in generally calm and clear waters that are ideal for swimming. It's less prone to strong waves than many open-coast beaches. Compared to some of Greece's busier beaches, Gerolimenas offers a calmer and more relaxed atmosphere.

◦ The Odyseas Elytis Amphitheater on the island of Ios is an open-air theater of the ancient Greek style designed by the architect Peter Haupt. Built in 1997, the Theater, made out of marble, can accommodate 1,100 spectators in its stands. The stage has a diameter of 12 meters. The seats are oriented toward the south, offering a view of the Aegean and protecting the spectators from the summer winds.

The theater is named after the Greek poet Odysseas Elytis. Odysseas Elytis was a famous Greek poet who wrote modern poetry and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1979. It is primarily used for hosting cultural events, performances, and concerts. It is ideal for summer theater productions, musical performances, and film screenings.

◦ The Venus de Milo, officially known as the Aphrodite of Milos, is a famous ancient Greek statue of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. While today it resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris, it's named after the Greek island of Milos, where it was discovered in 1820. Faithful replicas of the Venus de Milo statue are placed near the original discovery site and within the Archaeological Museum of Milos.

A farmer named Giorgos Kentrotas stumbled upon the statue while working on his land near the ancient theater in the village of Trypiti on Milos. It was partially buried and broken into several pieces. The statue was found to be missing both arms, and its condition suggests that it may have suffered damage in both ancient and more recent times. Scholars believe the statue dates back to the Hellenistic period, possibly between 130 and 100 BC. The sculpture is carved from Parian marble, a type of white marble known for its fine grain and suitability for sculpting.

The island plays a significant role in the statue's history and legend, attracting tourists who are fascinated by the famous work's origins. However, the statue is now a permanent fixture in the Louvre Museum. Greece has made many requests for its return over the years. It remains one of the most iconic and admired sculptures in the world, a testament to the artistry of the Hellenistic period.

◦ Pori beach in Ano Koufonisi is known for its turquoise waters and relatively shallow, sandy seabed. It's a popular beach, but generally not as crowded as some other spots in the Cyclades, offering a good balance of beauty and relaxation. The beach itself is primarily composed of fine, light-colored sand, making it comfortable to walk on and lie on. Compared to some other beaches prone to strong waves, Pori beach usually offers calmer waters, making it a good choice for families with young children. While popular, it doesn't usually reach the extreme overcrowding seen at some of the most famous Greek beaches.

Pori beach is a great option for a day of swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the stunning natural beauty of Koufonisia.
