Posidonia 2026 closes on a high🌊
The 29th edition wrapped at the Athens Metropolitan Expo with record-breaking numbers: 35,000+ visitors and 2,200 exhibiting companies, cementing its place as the world's premier maritime business platform for an industry that moves 87% of global trade. Against a backdrop of geopolitical and regulatory pressure, including Red Sea and Strait of Hormuz disruptions, shifting trade policies, and the contested IMO 2030/2050 timeline, the exhibition floor became an arena of strategic recalibration. It was also the first Posidonia held entirely within the EU Emissions Trading System for shipping.

June 1-5 was a week of major deals:
⚓ Dynacom Tankers led with a $1.47bn order for 12 VLCCs at China's Hudong-Zhonghua
⚓ Hengli Heavy Industries announced a $2.2bn package, with 21 firm orders across six international shipowners, including prominently Greek participation
⚓ ONEX Shipyards signed a 4+4 contract with Antipollution for eco-friendly vessels built entirely in Greece, at Elefsina and Syros
As Theodore Vokos, Managing Director of Posidonia Exhibitions, noted "the event was once again the maritime industry's preferred venue for its most significant commercial announcements."

Closing the Posidonia week, the UGS Press Conference, with President Melina Travlos, brought together Greek and international media to address the issues defining shipping today:
🌍 Decarbonisation — concerns over shipping being pushed toward unattenable EU targets; the need for global, not regional, regulatory solutions
⚖️ Shadow fleet — sanctions without global enforcement distort competition and disproportionately impact Greek shipping
🚢 Freedom of navigation — the instrumentalisation of vessels in conflict zones poses an existential threat
🎓 The next generation — Greece's most expanded scholarship programme to date: 365 scholarships this year, one every day

The global shipping community came to Greece not only to do business, but to find its compass.
