TESCO JUST TURNED 280,000 EMPLOYEES INTO AI BETA TESTERS.

Not a pilot. Not a focus group.

The UK's largest private sector workforce is testing an AI shopping assistant before customers see it later this year.

Tesco announced the trial this week, and the approach is smart. These colleagues understand grocery retail. They shop the same way customers do. They'll catch what breaks before it scales.

The assistant pulls Clubcard data, suggests recipes based on dietary preferences, auto-fills baskets, recommends meals using leftover ingredients. Tesco built AI into meal planning, the behaviour that drives repeat purchases.

Sainsbury's, Asda, Ocado? Narrow features. Search tweaks. Inventory tracking. Tesco embedded it into the core journey.

Most companies are still running pilots that go nowhere.

At Push, we see this constantly. Businesses experiment with AI. They don't rebuild around it.

"Systems beat experiments."

The companies winning are redesigning workflows from scratch, with AI built in from day one.

If you're still treating AI as a side project, you're already behind.

MOST RETAILERS ARE STILL TESTING AI.
FRASERS JUST REPORTED A 25% CONVERSION BOOST.

Early results?
25% increase in conversion rates compared to traditional search.

Here's what matters about this rollout.

It's search and conversational discovery. Shoppers describe what they want, refine preferences, and compare products. The AI interprets product data, availability, and real-time signals to narrow options and surface recommendations instantly.

And they're seeing it translate directly into buying behaviour.
We're working with brands that are asking the same question that Frasers Group answered: can AI reduce friction between discovery and purchase?

The answer is yes, if you connect it to revenue, not hype.

This is where retail AI moves from "interesting" to essential. When customer intent meets intelligent response in real time, conversion follows.

What's your view on this? Are we watching the shift from experimentation to ex*****on?

We didn't just add AI to the UGC... WE MADE AI THE UGC.
and won global recognition for it 🏆

I'm very pleased to announce that Push Group has just won Best Use of AI in Client Campaign at the Global Agency Awards 2026.

The win is for our AI-powered UGC campaign with Which Health Insurer.

Hundreds of AI-generated patient voices. Real, relatable, trustworthy. Every single one cleared compliance.

The judges called it "exceptional" and praised our approach to solving "genuinely difficult problems" in healthcare marketing.

"Navigating the complexities of the healthcare sector is no small feat, and the use of AI-generated UGC as the creative engine is a particularly smart approach."

Most businesses are still treating AI like a content assistant.
We have been using it to rebuild how creative gets made.

Charlie, Rohan, Anaya, and Abinash led the ex*****on. Which Health Insurer backed us to push it live.

It's great to get global recognition for a campaign where the team took some risks, experimented and then rolled out exceptionally fast.

How are you using AI in your campaigns?

Rachel Reeves promised the UK will achieve "the fastest AI adoption in the G7" this week, backed by £2.5 billion in investment.

Here's the reality we're seeing: AI can handle 90–94% of tasks in high-skill roles. Actual usage? Just 33%.

That gap isn't a technology problem. It's an organisational one.

This week alone, a team member with no dev background built a full landing page using Anthropic's Claude, in a fraction of the time and cost. That's what adoption actually looks like.

At Push Group, we've been doing this for three years. The ROI is measurable. The efficiency gains are real. And the gap between businesses embedding AI and those still evaluating is widening every quarter.

I've written about what we're seeing on the ground, why the barriers are organisational not technical, and what the Chancellor's challenge actually means for UK businesses.

YOUR CFO THINKS AI CUTS COSTS.
Google's using it to unlock growth that didn't exist last year.
I keep hearing the same question from CMOs: "How can AI help us do more with less?"

Wrong question.

If you lead with efficiency, you're training your CFO to see marketing as a cost centre to be squeezed. That conversation ends one way, smaller budgets, tighter teams, and a race to the bottom.

The real opportunity is in unlocking work that was impossible before.

Josh at Think with Google nailed it recently: "Tony Stark is a brilliant engineer, but put him in the Ironman suit, and he becomes a superhero."

That's what we're seeing with clients at Push.

One client is now testing creative variations at a scale that would've required six months and triple the budget last year. Another rebuilt their measurement framework to explore scenarios their team couldn't physically model before.

The focus now is about reaching customers while the insight still matters. It's about strategies that weren't on the table six months ago.

Google ran 400 investment scenarios for 2026. Pixel Europe turned 16 weeks of production into three hours. But the headline isn't speed, it's what becomes possible when you stop optimising old processes and start reimagining what marketing can do.

Are you still stuck in the efficiency conversation, or are you building for growth?

JOHN LEWIS ISN'T TESTING AI SHOPPING.
They're Committing To It. And TikTok is just the start.

They announced plans to integrate AI-powered shopping across ChatGPT and Google Gemini later this year. They've extended their partnership with Commercetools to build the infrastructure. And they're backing it with significant investment as part of their £800m transformation programme.

This isn't experimentation anymore.
This is directional investment.

Most retailers are still debating whether AI platforms matter. John Lewis & Partners is already embedding their entire catalogue into the places people are searching. They've read the signal; customers are using AI apps to find products, and if you're not there, you've already lost the sale.

Add in their 90-day TikTok Shop pilot focused on gifting and beauty, plus on-demand delivery via Uber Eats rolling out to four more stores this month. Their strategy is to be where customers are looking, and make buying instant.

We're seeing the same shift across our own client base. A year ago, the conversation was about whether to test AI tools. Now it's about speed to market. How fast can we get products visible on AI platforms? How do we make sure our catalogue shows up when someone asks Gemini for gift ideas?

"AI isn't going to replace retail. It's going to decide who gets seen first."

John Lewis gets it. And they're moving with the kind of urgency that tells you they understand the stakes.

MOST AGENCIES ARE STILL BUILT LIKE PYRAMIDS.
Ours is a diamond and the difference is worth exploring .

For decades, agencies ran on volume. A wide base of entry level execs carrying out admin-heavy work and a thin layer of seniors making decisions. That structure made sense when reporting and campaign setup required human hours.

AI is now challenging that organisation structure. It may make the pyramid hierarchy obsolete.

At Push Group, we redesigned our entire structure.
⦿ Fewer entry-level roles doing repetitive tasks.
⦿ A stronger mid-to-senior layer of strategists who think through AI, not just use it.
⦿ And leadership focused on governance, training, and commercial outcomes.

The shape changed because the work changed.

Clients don't pay for hours spent pulling data anymore. They pay for the judgment that turns insight into growth. Our team spends less time in spreadsheets and more time solving the problems that actually move performance.

"AI handles the repeatable work. Humans own the strategy."

Is your team still structured like a pyramid?

ACCENTURE JUST TIED PROMOTIONS TO AI TOOL USAGE.
USE IT OR GET LEFT BEHIND.

Accenture is moving AI from "nice to have" to non-negotiable. They're tracking usage. They're linking it to career progression. Because they know the competitive advantage doesn't come from having AI tools, it comes from actually using them.

Accenture trained 550,000 employees in generative AI. Now they're monitoring who's actually logging in. That's the shift: adoption isn't optional.

At Push Group, we shifted to an ‘AI first Agency’ in 2022. By the Summer of 2023 we started to train our entire team on our chosen AI tools. Not everyone was ‘happy’, we lost employees along the way who wanted to work in a ‘traditional’ performance marketing agency. (I know if you have read this far you will ‘get’ the irony of that phrase)

Nowadays, every team uses it to supercharge their processes. We're AI-first. When we recruit, being a digital native isn't enough, we are looking for AI natives or at the very least AI evangelists. We want to see how and where you've been using it.

Naturally we track usage and have been doing so for nearly two years.

What's your take, should companies mandate AI usage, or let adoption happen organically?

WE'RE A 2026 GOOGLE PREMIER PARTNER.
Top 3% globally. Again.

Premier Partner status isn't something you apply for, it's earned through client results, platform expertise, and retention.

It's Google's version of a performance review. And it matters because it shows we're not just running ads, we're building systems that scale.

Our approach has always been the same, treat every campaign like the business depends on it. Test relentlessly. Optimise constantly. No fluff.

For our clients, it means direct access to Google's product teams, early access to new features, and a partner who's proven they can deliver.

It also means they join us directly at Google HQ to hear insights from them ahead of their competition. We ran two sessions last week which were very well received. Both centred around AI and revealed where Google is leading the pack.

For us, it's a reminder to keep pushing.

If your current agency talks more than they test, we should talk.

AI NATIVES AREN'T JUST FASTER WITH TOOLS. THEY THINK DIFFERENTLY.

For the past three years, while most agencies debated whether to hire more "digital natives," we made a different call at Push. We started actively recruiting AI natives, people who don't just use AI, but think through AI-first lenses.

It may be a controversial opinion I know but digital natives are already being left behind.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
Digital natives are great at navigating interfaces and adopting new apps. AI natives understand how to collaborate with intelligence, not just tools.

They know how to structure prompts, spot when an LLM is hallucinating, and guide it back on track. They see automation as leverage, not a threat.

"𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝘀. 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲."

At Push, we embedded AI across campaign planning, creative testing, and performance analysis well over a year ago. But the people running those systems aren't just clicking buttons.

They're making judgment calls no model can make: understanding brand nuance, interpreting client goals, deciding when to override the algorithm.

The Economist recently warned that businesses have a window to adapt before AI reshapes work. They're right. But that window is closing fast.

The organisations that thrive will be the ones building AI-first cultures today, hiring people who understand how to work with intelligence, not just interfaces.

We decided not to wait for the talent market to catch up. Instead, we went out and found the people who already got it. And we're already seeing the results.

What's your strategy for building an AI-native workforce?
