NEW! ✨Submissions for the "Macau 8 Minutes" Emerging Filmmaker Program are now open!

Reimagine the city through film. NOWNESS and Studio City Macau 新濠影滙 launch the "Macau 8 Minutes" Emerging Filmmaker Program, encouraging young filmmakers worldwide to submit original short film proposals. The Program will invite internationally renowned Asian filmmakers to serve as mentors, providing comprehensive guidance and support to 3 selected short film projects. Upon completion, the selected projects for this year’s Program will premiere at Studio City in December 2026, alongside a series of screenings and themed discussions.

CCDC 城市當代舞蹈團 presents its 2026 production, ’INterstices’. This new movement project combines sound, installation and choreography to create a landmark contemporary dance performance. 📣

Under the creative vision of Sang Jijia, working with stage and lighting designer Lawmanray, and utilising video works by Oliver Shing, the stage is transformed into a space that oscillates between the physical and the ephemeral, portraying an odyssey of movement that brings together tension and release. Through this exploration of spatial possibilities, a new awareness of human presence is born.

📍The production runs from 28 February to 7 March at The Hall, East Kowloon Cultural Centre.

NEW: 📣 The 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival will honour director Jia Zhangke as its Filmmaker in Focus for the Golden Jubilee. Renowned for his distinctive realist aesthetics, Jia is a key figure of China's celebrated "Sixth Generation" of filmmakers. His work explores themes of dislocation and identity while reflecting China's societal changes over recent decades. ⁠

Taking place from 1 to 12 April, the festival will showcase a range of Jia Zhangke’s influential films, publish a commemorative book, and produce a limited-edition notebook in collaboration with Moleskine. Jia will also be present for a Face-to-Face session, where he will share his filmmaking insights with the public.⁠

The full programme will be released in early March, with further details on Zhangke’s retrospective to be announced via HKIFF soon⁠ 🎬

Shot on 16 mm and choreographed by Lin’s sister Mathilde – a dancer and resident artist at Rhizome Association in Burgundy, France – ‘Soil’ evokes the beautiful fragility of nature, which is marked by constant shifts and renewal.⁠🪷⁠

As the NOWNESS Short Film Talents draws to a close, we’ve recapped some highlights from this 5-day festival held at , celebrating the latest in short film culture and imagery 🎞️. Co-organised by the China Film Directors’ Guild and Meta Media, and hosted by .china, this year’s theme, ‘Everyday Wonders,’ explores the visual magic within the ordinary 📽️.

The festival kicked off with the latest short film, A Very Straight Neck, directed by Neo Sora. Additionally, attendees enjoyed a masterclass with acclaimed photographer and cinematographer Mikiya Takimoto and explored the latest ‘Cinema in Meta’ film exhibition created by Singaporean Artist Ho Tzu Nyen🎖️. The festival concluded with a vibrant closing dialogue featuring leading industry professionals, including Anthony Chan, Stanley Kwan, and more.
