It's natural to look at your competitors, to see what they are doing and try to get an edge over them. But rarely to businesses study successful companies in completely different industries to see what they are doing, and whether it can be adapted.
In fact, businesses usually resist doing something that is counter to normal practice in their industry.
It's good practice to stand back from your business and look for ways to make improvements. But studying successful companies in other industries will help you to break out of the tunnel vision that inevitably develops over time.
