What’s your brand personality?⠀
⠀
According to an interesting article by the Journal of Marketing Research, there are five identified facets to a brand’s personality. They are excitement, sincerity, ruggedness, competence, and sophistication. Which ones do your brand have?⠀
⠀
1. Excitement⠀
⠀
Does your brand possess a carefree, youthful or spirited attitude ?⠀
⠀
Think Disney, Airbnb, GoPro⠀
⠀
These brands seek to create an aura of excitement and fun through their brand experience and through their visuals and messaging.⠀
⠀
2. Sincerity ⠀
⠀
Brands that are known for their sincerity tend to position themselves as transparent, mindful and potentially family oriented. ⠀
⠀
They take customer expectations seriously and focus their messaging on building deep trust with the end consumer. As a result, these brands usually build very high brand loyalty as they go big on CSR and spreading “good”.⠀
⠀
Think... TOMS, Hallmark⠀
⠀
3. Ruggedness ⠀
⠀
Brands that promote a no-fear type of attitude are known to be ‘rugged’. These brands promote that outdoor experience to their adventurous target audience.⠀
⠀
Think... The North Face, Oakley, Jeep⠀
⠀
4. Competence ⠀
⠀
Brands that pride themselves on their competencies are smart, innovative and efficient. Brands with cutting edge technologies that either become super brands or super apps are prevalent in this category.⠀
⠀
Think Uber, Tesla, Apple⠀
⠀
5. Sophistication ⠀
⠀
A heritage brand is known to also be one that is sophisticated - a brand that has stood the test of time. These brands are far and few between, catering to the top 1% of the population willing to spend on the finer things in life. Think of brands that project status and luxury ... brands like Harry Winston, Chanel, Rolex.⠀
