Founded in 2015, MarblePrintClay (MPC) is artist-run printmaking studio. Our focus is on hand printed that are printed by our skilled printers in collaboration with artists and publisher based in Hong Kong. With traditional printmaking equipment, there is a studio for renting, a wide range of courses, access to specialist technicians and large format printing. MarblePrintClay works with artists, community organizations, galleries, educational institutions and the public. Creative collaboration is at the heart of the studio's practice. MarblePrintClay provides printmaking facilities and professional support for artists and designers. Facilities include etching, screen-printing and relief printing. Printing is an art that tests one’s willpower and action. Each work is a challenge, often involving long timelines in production.

🎨 Hide & Seek — Mono-Screenprinting & Japanese Stab Bookbinding
A playful one-day workshop combining mono-screenprinting with traditional Japanese 4-hole stab binding (Yotsume Toji).
Create layered, atmospheric prints using textures, transparent inks, patterns and marks — then transform your prints into an 8–10 page handmade artist book.
Some images will be revealed, others hidden within the folds, creating your own little visual story as the book unfolds. ✨

We’re taking cyanotype beyond the usual paper and experimenting with shells.
Our upcoming Cyanotype on Shells workshop explores an alternative way to work with this beautiful photographic printing process, using the natural curves, textures, and surfaces of shells to create unique blue-and-white impressions.
✨ A little different from our regular cyanotype workshops.

This month, we’re making more room to slow down, experiment, and really develop your work.

Our weekly classes are designed for more detailed printmaking techniques, giving you time to develop your own pieces without rushing — while enjoying the process and creative atmosphere of working in the studio.

We’re also excited to welcome guest artists for special workshops, including Mokuhanga and bookbinding. ✨

We’re preparing some exciting new courses, including cyanotype on shells and other experimental printmaking workshops. More details coming soon!

What makes Mokuhanga so special?

There’s no heavy press, no oil-based ink, and no machine doing the work for you.
Instead, you work with thin Japanese paper, water-based colours using traditional bokashi colour gradients, carved wood, and a brush — building the image layer by layer and printing everything by hand.
The result is soft, subtle, and full of little variations. You can even see the movement of the brush and the natural texture of the paper in the finished print.

This October, join Tokyo-trained Mokuhanga artist Ho Sheung Yan Nicolas Nicolas Ho and experience this traditional Japanese craft for yourself.

Discover the beautiful Japanese art of woodblock printing — from carving your design into wood to layering colours and creating delicate bokashi colour gradients. This course is taught by guest artist Ho Sheung Yan Nicolas Nicolas Ho who is a Mokuhanga artist.

Watch the process of pressing a beautiful leafy branch onto a soft ground plate! What makes soft ground so interesting is that you’re able to stamp and replicate material markings and texture like fabric, hair, leaves etc onto the plate. Unlike hard ground soft ground is more experimental in its approach, a bit more rustic. We will be testing out the printed results soon and hopefully they turn out well!

From a blank plate to their first mezzotint prints!

Our students recently completed their first mezzotint pieces, learning the process from the very beginning — from rocking and preparing the plate, to creating smooth shading and tonal values, and finally printing their finished work.
They also learned the importance of properly soaking the paper and using the printing press to achieve a clean, rich mezzotint impression.

This is just the beginning!

We’ll be offering more comprehensive, multi-day mezzotint courses in the future, designed to take you through the full process from starting and preparing your plate to completing and printing your final artwork.

Collagraph print by Kylie Chung

Inspired from her recent trip to Kyrgyzstan, Kylie used a recycled tetra pack and tape to visualise a horse jumping in front of a valley of mountains. A sap green colour base with a relief layer of yellow was added to the vibrancy of the green.

Collagraphy can be so playful and experimental. Accessible in its nature of materials and techniques. No print is the same, there’s always some differences and each plate can be printed only a limited amount of times. It is a great way to be introduced to the Intaligo and Etching techniques.

This collagraph class is available to be booked on our website. If you’ve never printed before this is a great intro to the world of printmaking, as it’s not as laborious as other techniques and the concept is very simple and fun to grasp.
