“Cask Fractions, investments for everyone”

Platinum Cask is offering a unique investment opportunity. We are pioneering a concept we call “Cask Fractions”. This is an opportunity for everyone to invest with an affordable outlay. We hope to attract a high volume of low investment.

A Cask Fraction is a percentage of the contents of a cask. Due to the fact that as a cask ages, and its volume of spirit decreases (the angels share), the simplest way to break it down is into fractions. Each cask is broken down into a different number of fractions depending on its value to get a conformed GBP 20.00 starting value for each fraction. Simply, the more valuable the cask the more fractions will be available.

How it works!
Firstly please sign up to a membership. Depending on the level of membership you choose, you will see a range of options to choose from. Then if fractions of that particular cask are available, click on buy and complete the payment with PayPal or by credit card. We do not charge a commission or any management fees for maintaining the stock; this is a hassle free investment. We do take 20% of the profit from any sale of fraction whether it’s traded on our platform or we sell the cask at auction.

Example:
Buy 1 fraction for GBP 20.00.
Sell 1 fraction for GBP 30.00
Profit GBP 10.00. 20% (GBP 2.00) deducted from the profit.
Receive GBP 28.00.

When and how will you get your money back?
Different casks will be set with different sale dates depending on their age and the details we receive when re-gauging the cask. If the ABV% drops too low we will sell the cask. If a whisky cask goes below ABV 40% it will no longer be known as a whisky. Once a sale has gone through you will receive your money back through PayPal or as a refund to your credit card. If you are from the UK, then bank transfer will be an option.

Can I withdraw my fraction as Whisky?
Yes, you can. We have set the withdrawal of Whisky high and impractical, as this is not how you will maximise the return on your investment. If you were thinking of doing this, please read our terms and conditions on withdrawal before purchasing. If you just want to drink some nice whisky, we would suggest buying a bottle off the shelf.

Why Buy Fractions?

A lot of casks are out of an individual’s comfort level for investing.
A lot of the time mates chip in and buy a cask or an investment. With cask fractions, you can invest even if you don’t have any mates.
The appreciation as a percentage is the same on a fraction as it would be on an entire cask but at an affordable price.
It makes a unique present to buy for friends and family as a gift.
You own the percentage of liquid in the cask you are buying, so worst-case scenario you can drink it.
In excess of 20% PA is possible on a small outlay of funds.
You are able to trade your fraction.
Cask Fractions are a stepping-stone to larger investments.

Our concept cask is a February 2009 Dalmore cask aged 8 years. We have broken it down into 200 fractions, each fraction valued at GBP 20.00. This gives the cask a value of GBP 4,000.00. Anyone with any whisky knowledge will know that a Dalmore cask of this age is worth considerably more. I am hoping this low valuation will encourage trading.

Due to the very limited number of casks that have become available for public purchasing. Before 2017 we barely saw any make it into the public eye.

One of the best places to find casks online to purchase is whisky-onlineauctions. In 2017 a 1995 Macallan, cask #7739, was sold for GBP 52,100.00. This was followed closely by a 1990 Macallan, cask # 4048, selling for GBP 135,100.00 and then a 1996 Macallan, cask # 15538, selling for GBP 168,300.00. This was topped in 2018 by a 1989 Macallan, cask # 1248, selling for a whopping GBP 242,200.00.

These are large numbers and similar jumps in value are possible with casks from other brands such as Bruichladdich, Ben Nevis, Dalmore, Jura, and many more. The appreciation of aged whisky is something that has gone unnoticed due to the lack of information around the asset.

If you’ve ever wanted to invest in a whisky cask but have been put off by the high initial expense, our cask fraction scheme allows you to own the whisky you want at a price you can afford. Not only does our system make cask ownership more affordable but it presents you with a greater variety of w...

Probably the rarest bottles of whisky in the world. Not seen at auction for over 3 decades!

Probably the rarest bottles of whisky in the world. Not seen at auction for over 3 decades!

Possibly two of the rarest bottles of whisky in existence have resurfaced after more than 3 decades since they were last seen.

The two 60-year-old Macallan bottles, one that features artwork by Valerio Adami and the other by Sir Peter Blake are considered to be the holy grail of Macallan bottles.

Both bottles contain single malt from 1926 and are expected to fetch more than £850,000 when they are auction off at Bonhams in Hong Kong on the 18th of May.

Both bottles are extremely rare, with only 24 bottles being produced, 12 presented in the Blake label and 12 presented in the Adami.

We love bottles like this Lagavulin Jazz Festival release. These limited release bottlings from events such as the Islay Jazz Festival or the Spirit of Speyside Festival are usually very reasonably priced when released while also being of a limited number.

This 2016 Jazz Festival release from Lagavulin is one of 6,000 cask strength bottles that went on sale during the festival for only £99.

These festival bottlings that are sold for under £100 are perfect to add to any whisky collection. They are cheap enough that many people will and do buy them to drink, while also being limited in numbers so that they will inevitably become rarer over time.

In the 18 months since this bottle was released, it now trades at auction for about £115. Not a huge increase in value and considering back in October of 2016 it was trading for £287 it looks like a bit of a flounder.

However, if we look at how the Lagavulin 2011 Jazz Festival release is doing at auction now, we can see that it is up over £750. Not bad for a bottle that went on sale for less than £100.

The Macallan Fine Oak range is aged in a mixture of sherry and bourbon casks and has been around for a number of years now. It seems to have shrugged off the negativity from the Macallan traditionalists when it was initially released, having broken from Macallan previous practice of only ageing their whisky in ex-sherry casks

The range that currently consists of a 10, 12, 15, 17, 18, 25, and 30-year variety, had previously featured an 8-year-old release and this 21-year-old.

Currently averaging about £310 this bottle has seen a steady increase from about £90 back in 2012, however, now this bottle has been discontinued we would expect to see prices increase a greater rate in the future, regardless of the large numbers bottles released.

Matured in the worlds oldest maturation warehouse, Bowmore's No.1 Vaults. This 43-year-old single malt is a result of a vatting of the last 6 remaining bourbon hogsheads from 1973.

Bottled at a cask strength of 43.2% this limited release from 2016 went on sale for £4,000.

Today this bottle can be seen trading at auction for around £7,500 up 87.5% in under 2 years.

THE MACALLAN SELECT RESERVE 52-YEAR-OLD 1946 LEADS BONHAMS EDINBURGH WHISKY SALE

A bottle of the Macallan Select Reserve 52-year-old from 1946 bottled on 1st May 1998 will take centre stage at Bonhams Whisky sale in Edinburgh on Wednesday 7 March with an estimate of £12,000-14,000.

The 1946 Macallan was produced in an unusual way. Coal was scarce and expensive in the immediate post-war era, so the malt was dried in peat-fired kilns instead resulting in a whisky with distinct and complex tastes and aromas. The bottle for sale is numbered 72 and comes in a wooden presentation case within the original carton. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Bonhams whisky specialist in Edinburgh, Martin Green, said, The Macallan Select Reserve- 52-year-old 1946 is widely regarded as one of the great Macallan expressions, and is keenly sought after by collectors, both in this country and around the world.”

Other bottles in the sale include:

A bottle of Black Bowmore 1964, bottled in 1994 and estimated at £8,000-10,000. This limited edition bottling was distilled on 5 November 1964 and laid down for 30 years in Oloroso sherry casks in the cellars below sea level at Morrison’s Bowmore Distillery.
A bottle of the Macallan 1959. Distilled by Macallan-Glenlivet Ltd., Craigellachie, it was bottled by Campbell, Hope & King in 2002. One of Macallan’s Fine and Rare Series, it is estimated at £3,500-4,000.

The auction is set to take place on Wednesday 7 March at 11 pm

At the start of 2017, we embarked on establishing and growing our rare whisky collection. Over the last 12 months, the collection has increased significantly and is continuing to grow every month.

One of the first bottles we added to the collection was a 1977, 21-year-old Brora bottling from Diageo's Rare Malts Selection. A limited number of these bottles were released back in 1998 and since then they have become very collectable.

Back in January 2017, this bottle was averaging about £660 at auction, a year later in 2018 this bottle has breached the thousand mark and is now averaging £1,150, an increase of 74% in 12 months.

Not the first Balvenie Thirty we've added to the collection, but when you have the chance to add such good bottles why stop at one?

Although the Balvenie Thirty is a regular release from Balvenie, it has consistently risen in value over the years and for older releases from the early 2000's the high prices reflect the rarity of these bottlings.

This new bottle that we're adding to the Fah Mai Holdings Rare Whisky Collection was bottled in 2014, and although not as old as the other Balvenie Thirty bottles in our collection, we believe that we will see a similar rise in value as this 2014 bottle becomes increasingly rarer.
