DECEMBER 26, 2022 Uncategorized

Like every industry, print is constantly changing. Trends emerge and evolve over the years. As we move into 2023, we can see a focus on digital printing, design services, the use of special effects and finishes, and sustainability.

*Digital Printing*
Digital printing is printing from a digital-based image onto a medium. The file is taken from the computer, added to the printing software, and then printed on paper, canvas, cardstock, and more. This printing process is convenient, affordable, and efficient. It even allows for on-demand printing! It’s no wonder that it is becoming increasingly popular. In fact, digital printing is expected to account for 21% of printed products by 2024. In 2019, 17% of printing was done digitally.

*Design Services*
We are seeing more and more print companies offering design services. Many have graphic designers or digital print experts on staff that can help with graphic or print design, retouching photos, and formatting help. This allows for better customer service, higher quality products, and demonstration of expertise.

*Special Effects & Finishes*
The use of special efforts and finishes on products will continue into 2023 and beyond. Varnish, foil, metallic, laminate, gloss, neon… Emphasizing one or more aspects of a print design through effects and finishes is a popular trend. Two common techniques are shimmering and laser cutting. Shimmering involves making stock stand out from the rest through a 3-D effect, and is in very high demand within the restaurant, wedding, and event planning industry. Laser cutting uses accurate cuts and outlines to create a unique textured effect. It provides a unique perspective that creates a dramatic effect for any file that has an intricate design

*Sustainability*
The newer generations are heavily focused on sustainability and eco-friendliness. They prefer to support brands that share these ideals. In the print industry, this means using recycled materials, energy-efficient equipment, and renewable energy sources as much as possible.

We have always been committed to sustainability. We were the first Reprographics Company in our marketplace to offer exclusively recycled stock in both large and small format document reproduction. Currently, other than specialty color graphics media, all paper products used in our process carry a minimum of 35% post-consumer recycled content. Additionally, we strive to recycle 100% of our waste products and have contracted with Weyerhaeuser to appropriately destroy and recycle all paper waste products.

*Print Industry Trends and Predictions 2023*

Articles, Future of work, Trends

In 2023, the print industry will remain vulnerable to the impact of economic uncertainty, the energy crisis and supply chain disruption. The Great Resignation is turning into the Great Layoff, creating a further shift in employer and employee dynamics. Although remote and hybrid working will not disappear, 2023 may see a wider return to the office, which could help improve print volume recovery. However, customer behaviour is changing, which is accelerating print and digital convergence. Industry players must adapt their product and service offerings to drive relevance in a rapidly changing technology landscape.

Quocirca has identified the following 10 key trends that will shape the print industry in 2023:

1. The Great Layoff may signal a wider return to the office
The Great Resignation has now given way to the Great Layoff, primarily in the tech sector. This is creating a shift in the balance of power between employer and employee. Although hybrid working will continue, both employers and employees will re-evaluate expectations around remote working. in 2023 we may see less resistance to a return to the office which will lead to a rise in office occupancy levels.

2. Cloud adoption will drive print infrastructure modernisation
Cloud adoption will continue to increase creating opportunities for print vendors and ISVs. Varying levels of cloud maturity will require tailored and clear differentiation in an increasingly fragmented cloud print market.

3. Sustainability performance will come under scrutiny
As net-zero targets loom, vendors will come under pressure to provide transparency around circular economy initiatives. In 2023 we can expect to see more sustainability-led products and service offerings around hardware, software and MPS as vendors look to further differentiate.

4. Digitisation will continue to pressure print volumes
While some businesses will continue to rely on print for certain business processes, digitisation initiatives will be driven by the need to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and lower environmental impact.

5. Gen Z will reshape workspace dynamics
As more Gen Z employees enter the workforce, their expectations around workplace technology and productivity will have an increasing influence on print and digital collaboration.

6. Print security will be elevated to the application level
As print security hardware features become more standardised, differentiation will be around expertise in adjacent software and services that can deliver a multi-layered approach to securing the print infrastructure.

7. Smart buildings and IoT will offer new opportunities
The office space has to adapt to provide sociable and collaborative workspaces that improve employee productivity. As organisations redesign their office space, MPS providers have an opportunity to deliver innovative workplace technology that integrates with broader smart building and IoT ecosystems.

8. Data innovation will separate leaders from followers
Leading industry players will be those that derive value from data. Data-driven business models will enable vendors to better understand customer behaviour and identify opportunities to deliver services adjacent to print. OEMs should adopt a cloud-native architecture to drive real time insights from connected MFPs.

9. Partnerships and collaborations will drive channel growth
To build competitive advantage, MPS providers must work with a range of specialists in adjacent areas such as cybersecurity, sustainability, IT services and workplace technology to jointly deliver a full suite of workplace solutions.

10. The metaverse will guide new office experiences
Adoption of VR and AR will continue to rise in support of hybrid working and demand for immersive digital collaboration. Those vendors that innovate or partner in areas such as virtual collaboration will be best positioned for success.

Photobook Worldwide
Photobook Worldwide is a photo product e-commerce enterprise based in Southeast Asia, present in over 100 countries. Founded in 2005, the company offers over 150 product types and produces over 150, 000 photo books every month. Photobook Worldwide prides itself on its company culture and exceptional quality of its photo products.

Objective
Photobook Worldwide was looking for a comprehensive solution to cater for its complex needs across multiple product ranges and markets. There was also a condition: the system had to have enough flexibility to integrate easily with the software the company wanted to continue using. The new photo product solution was to have a UI/UX that could meet the modern customer’s requirements, as well as reshape Photobook Worldwide’s customer journey and user flow for different products.

Requirements
- Beautiful, fast and user-friendly editor
- Adaptability to new bespoke shopping cart
- Flexibility and ease of integration
- Mobile responsive
- Advanced product administration

Key challenges & Solutions
Over 150 product types, high volume sales
A very large number of product categories meant that Photobook Worldwide had loads of work with its product configuration. Printbox’s backend admin panel came to the rescue. It turned out that many tasks can be optimized because Printbox’s product administration made them easier.

One of Photobook Worldwide’s favourite Printbox features is the ability to update massive amounts of prices using a CSV file because it saves loads of time and resources. The company is able to very easily add new templates and skins or change attributes.

Additionally, Photobook Worldwide can launch new products much faster and reconfigure existing products in a much simpler way. Most activities can be done without any involvement from technical teams.

The hybrid model
With the organization that big you can expect a very complex software ecosystem. There are parts of the business where Photobook Worldwide wanted to stick to the software they already had. Printbox’s task was not only to implement one of its core modules, the Advanced Editor into an existing e-commerce platform. It had to also make sure that whatever Photobook Worldwide wanted to integrate – it would be done neatly.

Photobook Worldwide developed a powerful mobile app and found a way to integrate certain back end functionalities with Printbox to further improve the app’s performance and enhance their customer’s experience. Photobook Worldwide’s team recognizes how very responsive and technically skilled the Printbox team is to make sure that the flexible, hybrid model works very smoothly.

Improved customer flow
Before Printbox, Photobook Worldwide had only one editor at its disposal. This meant that users who wanted to buy only a simple product had to deal with an editor that’s too complicated for their needs. Printbox brought three distinct editors to the table: Advanced for products involving a lot of work, Simple editor for single image products and other simple products and lastly Prints for prints. What is more, the editors can be placed at the end of different customizable buying paths.

Photobook Worldwide can now easily add or delete steps within a buying path. WYSIWYG static landing pages eliminate a lot of development work. Printbox’s component features allow employees to easily modify steps, and open architecture lets the Printbox team add new components easily. Photobook Worldwide now has a customer journey much more accustomed to their users’ needs.

Benefits
Printbox’s modern technology completely reinvented the UI/UX of Photobook Worldwide websites. Additionally, Photobook Worldwide can now launch and reconfigure products very quickly and easily at high productivity, translating to less technical implementation and involvement. Thanks to Printbox’s Responsive Web Design, users are served the best possible experience no matter what device they’re on.

- 100% increased web revenue
- 50% decreased bounced rate
- 3x faster on launching new products

"We sell to over 100 markets and produce over 200,000 products monthly. Switching to a new solution is not an easy call for a company of our size and we are extremely happy we made the move.
