Here’s a respectful reminder to all foreigners living in or visiting Bali

Bali is not just a destination — it is home to a proud culture, hardworking people, and small businesses that rely on mutual respect to survive.

If you visit a café and order a single coffee, please don’t expect to occupy a table for hours while using the café’s Wi-Fi. These businesses operate on tight margins. If you stay longer, continue to order food or drinks, or free up the table for paying customers.

When using Grab or Gojek, please be generous with your tip whenever you can. These drivers and riders work long hours, often in difficult conditions, for very modest pay. A small tip can make a real difference to their day.

Respect the Balinese people, respect their businesses, and remember that you are a guest here. Bali’s beauty comes not just from its landscapes, but from the kindness and dignity of its people — let’s honour that.

A relaxing day yesterday of retail therapy combined with a good massage was just what i needed. Recently opened on level three on a side passageway, is Reborn Massage. No traffic noise and super clean. Its a little more expensive but you will also enjoy a chilled eye mask and a hot towel rub down after, as well as a delicious ginger tea. Well worth it. And yes i paid in full as i always do.

Yesterday I visited Icon Bali, Sanur. Mostly mall food is pretty appalling but i was quite impressed by Tom Sushi on level three. Pro tip: for ultimate freshness order off the menu rather than using the sushi train.
