The Society is delighted to announce the 2025 Sire of the Year awards!

Junior Sire of the Year: Silverhill Helpful, sire of the record-breaking ram that sold for €40,000. Purchased in the Premier Sale last year for €6,000, his first-year lambs have sold for €40,000, €9,000, €6,000, and €5,000 (twice)!

Senior Sire of the Year: Annaghdown Goldfinger, sire of the highest-priced shearling at this year’s Premier Sale and previous topper at €13,000.

The Irish Texel Sheep Society Supports Youth!

At the recent AGM held in Tullamore, Co Offaly, the annual Young Breeder of the Year award was presented to Arron McPhilips for his unwavering dedication to the breed.

This dedication is evident through his work promoting the breed at local shows in both pedigree and cross Texel sections, as well as through his social media content. Arron has also shown his commitment to his region, the North East, by taking on the role of secretary.

Let’s join together in thanking Arron for his dedication and congratulating him on this well-deserved award!

It's now time to start thinking about investing in next year's lambs. With a number of in-lamb sales coming up in the south of Ireland, there's ample choice for new and existing breeders to buy something new. Remember, it's not always the expensive ewes that do the business. This year's Blessington champion was out of a €1,400 ewe purchased in the Premier Sale and sired by a ram bought in the Premier Sale! The record-breaking 40k ram's granny was bought for €1,100 in Ballinrobe Mart! And his sire was also purchased in Blessington! All ewes at these sales will already be registered. Here's a link to the catalogues for the sales in the next two weeks! We wish all vendors and purchasers well!
