Interesting read from Irish Independent today in relation to AI:
Almost half of Irish workers believe AI will replace or negatively impact their job. Yet, in the same report, only 3.6% of Irish companies say they have used AI to replace an entire role.
That gap between perception and reality is significant.
Patrick Shields, Management Executive commenting on LinkedIn points out:
'It reminds me of previous periods of economic uncertainty. When leaders don’t communicate clearly about what’s changing, and what isn’t, employees naturally fill the silence with their own assumptions. Too often, those assumptions can result in fear and negativity.'
The rest of the report paints a more balanced picture:
• As mentioned, only 3.6% of companies have replaced an entire role with AI.
• 65% of firms are recruiting this year (up 11% on last year).
• A further 10% plan to hire over the next three months.
• AI’s impact is currently being felt primarily through task automation rather than job replacement.
AI is a technological revolution on the scale of the internet or electricity. The organisations that succeed won’t simply be those that adopt AI fastest, they’ll be those that communicate the transition best.
Open communication, education and upskilling aren’t optional. Without them, uncertainty can create a vacuum of anxiety for employees.
