🔴 Tomorrow, six of my encaustic paintings are going into an exhibition at . The theme is Solar Eclipse and I am so excited to have my work exhibited in the new gallery space there!

Dreamscapes: Echoes of Other Worlds: a small series of framed miniature encaustic paintings on paper depicting magical lands, both familiar and unseen, the veil between worlds, and the other side.

I am fascinated by the fact that modern technology is enhancing our vision and perception of amazing phenomena such as solar and lunar eclipses, the Northern Lights, and mysterious cosmic events, and how it is connecting us back to the natural world here on Earth, the outer world in space, and the other world which the author Manchán Magan spoke so wonderfully about.

Living in West Cork, I take deep inspiration from both the beautiful, ever-changing landscape around me, and images of the sky, the galaxy and outer space to create magical, other-worldly scenes. My paintings become miniature portals through which you can explore other places and new worlds in wonder.

As an artist painting landscapes in a modern encaustic method, I love to draw the viewer into magical lands and spark their imagination with a sense of awe. Many of my wax paintings are quite a small size as it is the format | am most drawn to with this medium. There is something immediately charming about work on this scale, and a feeling of wonder that you are holding a portal to another world in your hands. Where possible, I try to use naturally-derived materials in my work, with my primary medium being beeswax, pigments and damar resin painted onto sealed paper. I do not make prints or reproductions of my encaustic work, so each piece is truly unique.

✨𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙤𝙣𝙨✨- exciting new art exhibition coming to the gallery at West Cork Collective Saturday 30th May 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 & 𝙙𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙪𝙤 Liz Price & Natalie Dwyer. All paintings available to purchase!

𝗟𝗶𝘇 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 is a 𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩 who has lived in West Cork for most of her life. Mainly self-taught, she primarily works in watercolour, preferring the 𝙖𝙩𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 it creates in her work. She is fascinated by old decaying buildings and the way that nature takes over that which man discards. While spending some years living in France, she found herself drawn back to 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙨 as their certain 𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙮 suited her personality. Viewers of her work are invited to feel the 𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 of a scene and not a photographic copy.

𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝘄𝘆𝗲𝗿 is a self-taught modern 𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙩 who loves to draw the viewer into 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧-𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨 and spark their imagination with a sense of awe. Having grown up in West Cork watching her mother interpreting the landscape through watercolours, she takes deep inspiration from both the beautiful, ever-changing landscape around her. Natalie’s 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙨 are framed miniature encaustic wax paintings on paper depicting 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨, both familiar and unseen, the veil between worlds, and the “other side”. There is something immediately 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 about work on this scale, and a feeling of wonder that you are holding a 𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 in your hands.

Life has felt quite busy lately, so here’s a photo dump 🫠 It’s a full-on season with work, art and family life here in West Cork. This place is absolutely stunning at this time of year.
On paper I am now a professional artist! Career-wise, I am very much still a designer too. The challenge lies in balancing my work and energy between the two. I am grateful to have quite a bit of work on, and opportunities to avail of. I’m still figuring it all out, but it’s (mostly) fun!

✨ New miniature encaustic paintings! These are some tiny new landscapes and dreamscapes I’ve been working on this year. I’m currently framing them, getting them ready to send out to galleries 🤗 I’ll try to put some on my website this time too but I find this part of the process hard after the painting and then the framing, which I do myself. I see the framing as another step in the creative process and I’m very particular about how I want my pieces to be presented.

There’s one painting I’m finding it very hard to let go of… It might be a keeper. Can you guess which one it is?
I don’t hold onto many of my pieces. I love to send them out into the world so that people can bring a little bit of charm and wonder into their homes with one of my tiny portals into another world ✨ But there’s something about this one piece I love so much that I want to hold onto it.

It was lovely to read this feedback from the previous series of encaustic classes I ran:
“I attended Natalie’s workshop for encaustic wax painting and had an amazing experience. Natalie has a such a lovely calming presence about her which made the workshop very easygoing and I was able to really be mindful during the practice. I’m really happy with what I learned and what I made and would love to do more in the future!“ - Student testimonial

I’m so excited to have six new wax paintings available to purchase from the fabulous in Douglas Village Shopping Centre! Two of the pieces are miniatures on wooden panels, one seascape and one lake scene. Both are tiny portals to other worlds inspired by my surroundings here in West Cork ✨Two slightly larger wax paintings on paper follow one of my absolute favourite colour palettes: silver and blue 💍💙This colour combination gives these dreamscapes such a magical quality. When you walk past them, they shimmer as the light catches the metallic pigment scattered through the beeswax.

I would love to know which one is your favourite?

Market Gallery is a wonderful place located in the Douglas Village Shopping Centre. I love how accessible it is, and their themed exhibitions are curated so beautifully. I managed to catch the “Voice of Dreams” exhibition that finished recently. This evening, a new exhibition opens- “From the Heart”, so if you are in the area, do drop in and take some time to look at the art 🖼️ You can find my pieces in the window and along the Gallery Artists wall 🤗

I was so excited to see open in December here in Clonakilty on Spiller’s Lane. They offer a bespoke picture framing service with a fantastic selection of depths in both neutrals and bright colours (swipe through to see all the options 🌈). In addition to the framing, they stock a very interesting collection of high quality art materials to suit both children and adults, with a focus on sustainability. I was swooning over the range of Fabriano drawing pads, sketchbooks & journals 😍

It’s wonderful to be able to purchase these art supplies locally, and I look forward to seeing more added to the collection as they build their business. They are very friendly and approachable, so if you’re in West Cork, do call in for a browse!
