🐦🦆🎋🪺This was a while in the making - these things take time 🕵️- but so happy to receive such an overwhelmingly positive response. It was a pure pleasure to interview all the contributors - such experts in thier own fields. So now we are left with the chance to make the Lapwing our 'Official' National Bird once and for all

🌤️ Biodiversity week ended with a fanfare in West Cork 🐝 🦭 . The most beautiful day of the year included the celebration of our beach and sea creatures, organised by Ballinspittle BEO Conservation Group. We also unveiled out first all weather interactive sign across from the Garrylucas Wetlands. Big shout out to to www.regenerate.ie for sponsoring this important work. - The hope is to introduce the public to the beauty and importance of our marshlands. Without which - there would be no beach 😕 - it would be a flood plan isolating The Old Head as an island! Could you tell me what Ireland's National Bird is?? 🐦‍⬛
- Yes ✅
- No ❎
- Not sure 🧐
- Is it the same bird as the one on the old 50p piece? 🤩

So my journey begins for RTÉ Radio One to find out why this beautiful bird, the equivalent of an 18th century 'Dandy' of the bird kingdom, was decided upon as our National Bird and why so few people know!? 🫣

Thank you to my very generous contributors on our first day of recording Minister Christopher O'Sullivan TD Deasy - NPWS Conservation Officer for the South West Division and Jim Wilson - Harpers Island Wetland Nature Reserve. Thanks also to Browne at RTÉ and to the sun 🌞 for making an appearance and especially to the wetland birds! 🦢

🧙‍♀️ Tomorrow we delve into myths, legends and superstar stories of this magical bird with Lehane - UCC and author of 'Old Ways To New Days' 📗
