Your merchandise is competing with everything people already own.
That changes the brief.

The question isn't simply whether someone will accept a branded item.
Most people will.

The more interesting question is:
Will they choose it again tomorrow?

Because the moment merchandise enters someone's home, desk, wardrobe or work bag, your logo is no longer the deciding factor.

The product has to compete with the bottle they already love.
The hoodie they automatically reach for.
The bag that's already by the door.
The charger permanently living in their laptop case.

And that's a useful way to think about merchandise.

Don't just design for the handover. Design to become the favourite.
That could mean choosing the better fabric.
Getting the fit right.
Making the functionality genuinely useful.

Using branding with enough restraint that someone actually wants to carry or wear it.

Or simply understanding the recipient well enough to choose something that fits naturally into their day.

Because the real win isn't:
“They received our merchandise.”

It's:
“They chose ours.”

That is a much higher bar and a far more interesting one to design for.

What would make someone choose your branded product over the one they already own?

Identity Promotions helps organisations create merchandise around the people who will actually use it not simply the logo that needs to go on it.

Event merchandise has an interesting advantage.
It can cross the boundary between the event itself and everyday life.

Something received at 2pm on a conference floor might be sitting on someone's desk three months later.

That creates an opportunity.

Instead of choosing merchandise only around the event theme, consider the life the item will have afterwards.

Where is the attendee going next?
Back to an office?
Onto a train?
To another meeting?
Home?

An item that becomes useful in that next environment can extend the experience naturally.

The event creates the introduction.
Continued use creates the memory.

So when planning event merchandise, don't only design for the day.

Design for Day 30 too.

Identity Promotions can help you select merchandise that makes sense during the event and afterwards.

A welcome pack can quietly teach someone about the company they've joined.

Before a new employee understands every process, meets every colleague or learns every piece of company language, they're already forming an impression.

Merchandise can be part of that introduction.

Not because every new starter needs a box full of branded products.

But because thoughtfully selected items can communicate something about how the organisation works.

A practical desk kit says:

We've thought about your first day.
A quality piece of apparel can create belonging.

A notebook designed around the onboarding journey can become a working tool rather than simply a gift.

A reusable travel item can make sense for a team that's frequently on the move.

The opportunity isn't to put more things into the welcome box.
It's to make every item say something useful about the experience ahead.

The welcome pack can be part of the onboardingnot separate from it.

There’s an interesting question worth asking before choosing promotional merchandise:

What happens five minutes after someone receives it?
Then five days later?
And five months later?

The strongest merchandise often becomes part of something the recipient already does.

A bottle joins the morning commute.
A notebook finds its place in weekly meetings.
A charging cable stays in the work bag.
A travel accessory becomes part of every business trip.

That’s when merchandise moves beyond the moment it was handed over.
It becomes part of a routine.

And routine creates something valuable for a brand: natural, repeated presence.

So before choosing the next item, picture its life after it leaves your hands.

Where will it go?
When will it be used?
What will make someone reach for it again?

Choose for what happens next.

Identity Promotions can help you select merchandise around the people receiving it and the moments where it can genuinely add value.

The power bank earned its place in promotional merchandise. But today, there’s a much bigger world of tech worth exploring.

Think wireless charging pads, cable organisers, multi-device chargers, Bluetooth trackers, we**am covers, phone stands, earbuds and smart travel accessories, products designed around how people actually work, travel and stay connected.

The opportunity for brands is interesting.

Instead of choosing tech because it simply looks impressive, choose it around a small problem your audience regularly encounters.

A tangled charging cable.
A phone running out of places to sit during a video call.
A forgotten adapter on a business trip.
A desk that could be better organised.

Solve something small and suddenly your branded product earns its place.

That’s where good tech merchandise gets smart: your brand becomes associated with something genuinely helpful.

Looking for something beyond the usual tech giveaway? Identity Promotions can help you explore options that fit your audience, campaign and budget.

Sustainable branded apparel starts before you choose the garment.

It’s easy to start with the product.

An “eco” T-shirt.
A recycled hoodie.
A jacket with a sustainability claim attached.

But the label alone doesn’t tell you whether you’re making a better merchandise decision.

A stronger brief looks further.

What evidence supports the materials?
Will the garment last long enough to justify producing it?
Are you ordering against genuine demand or simply chasing a lower unit price?
What happens to the stock that isn’t used?

Because sustainability isn’t just about what something is made from.

It’s also about how well it’s made, how long it stays useful, how much you order and whether people actually want to wear it.

The original short post puts it simply: better briefs create products people use while reducing avoidable surplus.

Better merchandise starts with better questions.

Before approving your next branded apparel order, build the brief around evidence, durability and real demand not just the claim printed on the label.

Planning branded apparel for your team, event or campaign?

Identity Promotions can help you challenge the brief before unnecessary cost and waste are locked in. The broader article specifically positions this as support for employee programmes, events and global campaigns.

A global merchandise programme needs one standard but not necessarily one warehouse.

Consistency matters when your brand operates across multiple markets.
But consistency doesn’t have to mean shipping every item from the same place.

A merchandise programme covering Ireland, Europe and the US can face very different realities around:

Stock availability.
Lead times.
Product documentation.
Labelling requirements.
Customs.
Local distribution.
End-of-life considerations.

Trying to force every market through one supply route can create unnecessary cost, delays and complexity.

A better approach is to establish one clear merchandise standard then execute it intelligently by region.

That standard can define:

• Materials and product quality
• Evidence requirements
• Branding and decoration quality
• Packaging expectations
• Delivery experience
• Rules around acceptable substitutions

The sourcing route may change.
The brand experience shouldn’t.

For Marketing, HR and Procurement teams managing merchandise across markets, the goal isn't simply centralisation.

It's consistency without unnecessary complexity.

One brand. One standard. Smarter regional ex*****on.

Planning merchandise across multiple markets?

Identity Promotions can help you build a consistent programme while finding practical sourcing and fulfilment solutions for each region.

A lower unit price can look like a win on the spreadsheet.

Until event numbers change.
Size estimates are wrong.
A campaign gets updated.
Employees leave.
And boxes of unused apparel are still sitting on the shelf months later.

That’s where the real cost starts to show.

Storage. Write-offs. Disposal. Wasted budget. And merchandise that never had the opportunity to do the job it was bought for.

A stronger apparel brief asks different questions:

1. What outcome does the item need to achieve?
2. What quantity is supported by actual demand?
3. Could a controlled first order be replenished instead of over-ordering upfront?
4. Is the quality good enough to be worn repeatedly?
5. Can the sustainability claims be properly evidenced?

Good merchandise buying isn’t about spending more.

It’s about spending the budget where it will actually create value on the right quantity, the right quality and products people will choose to use.

Before you order more, make sure you need more.

Planning an upcoming apparel order? Identity Promotions can help you review the brief, quantities and product options before unnecessary cost and surplus get locked in.

31/08/2026

A recycled-content label is useful. It is not a complete sustainability strategy.

For branded apparel, senior Marketing, HR and Procurement teams increasingly need to look beyond the headline claim.

How durable is the garment?
What evidence supports the fibre claim?
Can sizes and quantities be managed without creating unnecessary surplus?
Do the trims, decoration and packaging support the same standard?
And what happens to unwanted or damaged stock?

EU textile policy is moving steadily towards greater producer responsibility, better product information and stronger life-cycle accountability. That direction should influence corporate merchandise briefs now, even where a specific rule does not yet apply directly.

The strongest programmes aren’t built by simply choosing an “eco hoodie” from a catalogue.

They start by defining the audience, intended use, quality threshold, evidence standard and quantity plan.

That’s how branded clothing becomes useful brand infrastructure rather than short-lived campaign stock.

Planning your next branded apparel programme?

Talk to us before the specification is locked in. We can help you review the brief, challenge the right areas and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary surplus while making better-informed product choices.

28/08/2026

The best merchandise budget isn’t always the biggest one.

A strong promotional campaign is about knowing where your budget will make the most difference.

For large-volume events, simple products such as pens, keyrings and totes can give you reach without stretching the spend.

With a little more room, you can introduce better materials, useful drinkware, notebooks, tech accessories or more considered combinations.

And when the moment calls for something premium like client gifting, employee recognition or VIP experiences, investing in fewer, higher-value pieces can make sense.

The goal isn’t to spend more. It’s to spend well.

At Identity Promotions, we can help you balance quantity, quality, purpose and budget to find merchandise that works for what you’re actually trying to achieve.

Tell us your budget and your brief. We’ll help you make the most of both.
