Back from hols and back to the office ✨ The perks of being self employed is getting to work from anywhere in the world and take off when you need… the only downside is that time off is often not really time “off!”
I’ve found this to be my biggest challenge since starting my business - establishing clear boundaries from work time and personal time.
Up until recently, I was working from home (most often in my bedroom) and at random hours. I noticed this wasn’t serving my nervous system well, which led me to start a membership at a co-working space. I’m trying to work more “normal” hours, while still respecting when my levels of creativity and productivity are at their peak (hint: I’m not a morning person). I’m also trying to make time for my non-negotiables – my personal yoga and meditation practice, time with loved ones, and time to get outside and disconnect. My work phone is still my personal phone – I know I’d lose one of my phones if I had to manage two, so this lack of work/play boundary will still have to be managed 🤣
I’m not a glowing example of work-life balance, but I’m trying to fully switch off when I’m on vacation and not traveling for work. I turned off *all* of my notifications while away and only periodically checked in to make sure things weren’t going completely awry while I was gone… once I realised that all was well, I put the phone away, right away!
I absolutely had the fear returning back to work today to my notifications, but I try to remember the best way to eat an elephant… one bite at a time 😉
