We have recommenced our annual study of attitudes in rural Ireland for The Examiner - Irish Examiner/Ipsos B&A Rural Ireland Thinks poll.

This series has run over many years and this year’s poll was fielded among a 500-person sample representative of the population of those living in rural Ireland.

The release coincides with the start of the National Ploughing Association / Championships, a centrepiece of life in rural Ireland. This study involves face-to-face, in-home interviewing which is essential in parts of the country where rural broadband isn’t adequate and where there is no substitute to knocking on someone’s door.

IPSOS B&A has the largest panel of face-to-face interviewers, complemented by a significant telephone interviewing team primarily located in Ballyhaunis and Achill, in addition to an extensive online panel.

Ipsos B&A CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT

This wave of the Ipsos B&A Consumer Confidence Barometer was conducted from the 15th - 26th February 2024.

New Global study by Ipsos: Ipsos’ annual International Women’s Day survey

Attitudes to gender quality are divided, with concerns around the impact of gender equality on men, and differences both across and within the generations. There continues to be an emerging sense of concern about the impact of gender equality on men - and that we may have gone far enough.

Almost half of people (46%) think that we have gone so far in promoting women’s equality that we are discriminating against men. Gen Z (49%) and Millennials (50%) are more likely to think this than Baby Boomers (37%). However, around the world people think that female political leaders and business leaders are equal to men when it comes to economic and financial success.

IPSOS B&A IRELAND REPORT WILL BE RELEASED ON 6th March post the IAPI - Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland Female Futures event sponsored by Ipsos B&A.

Ipsos B&A CONSUMER CONFIDENCE REPORT

This wave of the Ipsos B&A Consumer Confidence Barometer was conducted from the 10th- 16th January 2024.

On a macro level, inflation has fallen again in January and is now below five percent for three consecutive months. This is mirrored in an improved consumer outlook.

While the public is still deeply in negative territory (positive minus negative sentiment for the next 12 months stands at -33), this represents an improvement of five points since December, and is at a six-month “high”.

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of the legend, Phelim O’Leary of B&A.

Research was his love, and he was truly a researcher's researcher, who was culturally curious about people and life. From his early days in Irish Marketing Surveys, he understood the power of excellent Qualitative research. He championed and drove Qualitative research in Ireland, becoming a leading light in the industry when he joined B&A. Qualitative research was, at the time, as new and mysterious as Artificial Intelligence is now. But there was nothing artificial about Phelim's intelligence.

In a previous life, he was a rock critic and manager of Irish folk band, Scullion (while doing Qual as well in his spare time!), and hence his wonderful tales and great stories. His love of music continued throughout his life, with a record collection that Dave Fanning would be proud of!

He was known for his wit, charm and wordsmithing, and he was a learned sage to everyone he met.

We have been inundated with so many lovely emails, texts and calls this week, and people have described him as a titan, legend, trailblazer, and a pioneer. All are true.

Phelim lived life to the full and constantly pushed the boundaries, which is a lesson to us all. But most of all he was a true gentleman. And we at B&A - and I personally - will miss him very much.

In true Phelim style, he would want the show to go on, and so it will. Keep pushing those boundaries everyone.

Our thoughts go out to his wife Judy, and his children, Hannah, Sam and Georgia.

May he rest in peace.

Luke
