We spoke at this week’s safety briefing about us not having priority use of the park and of the importance of respecting other park users. We relate this message every week. Additionally, we specifically spoke to the front runners about their role in ensuring the safe enjoyment for everyone using Bushy Park. It is disappointing to note that on Saturday our volunteer marshals witnessed disrespectful behavior by parkrunners towards other park users. This is not acceptable and can’t be tolerated. We have a great event, which everyone loves, and don’t want it to be jeopardized in any way.

We don’t need any comments on this post. The message is self explanatory. If you have anything you’d like to share with us on this general topic or any other parkrun related issue you can email us at [email protected] for our review.

Thank you.

THE GREAT TERENURE MANHOLE MYSTERY – WHO STOLE OUR SLEEP? 🔊😴

Greenlea Grove/Road & Lakelands – Where a Good Night’s Sleep Is Now a Luxury!

There are many great unsolved mysteries in the world. Who built Stonehenge? What happened to the dinosaurs? And, perhaps most baffling of all, who is responsible for three noisy manhole covers at the entrance to Terenure Rugby Club?

For local residents, particularly older people hoping to enjoy their retirement in peace, the nightly entertainment is proving less than enjoyable.

BANG! CLANG! BANG!

Every time a vehicle passes over the three unstable covers, another performance begins. Residents report that at busy times the show can repeat every 30 seconds.

No tickets required. No interval. And absolutely no chance of a refund.

The Great Responsibility Championship

So who owns these magnificent musical instruments?

Dublin City Council? The issue has been reported through its Citizens’ Portal, but residents are still waiting for a solution.

Terenure Rugby Club? The club has been contacted, but its responsibility remains unclear.

A utility company? Perhaps the covers belong to one of the organisations responsible for underground services.

The residents themselves? Surely not. Although they are the ones paying the price in lost sleep.

At this stage, perhaps we need a special commission of inquiry, an independent chairperson and a six-month public consultation to determine who should tighten three manhole covers.

Sleepless in Terenure

Meanwhile, older residents are discovering that retirement comes with an unexpected soundtrack.

Forget counting sheep. Try counting cars.

Forget your evening cup of tea and an early night. The Greenlea Percussion Orchestra is apparently available for repeat performances.

And unlike most concerts, this one may continue long after the audience has gone to bed.

Of course, behind the humour lies a serious problem. Interrupted sleep affects people’s health and wellbeing, and unstable manhole covers may also pose a genuine road safety risk.

Our Modest Proposal

Could somebody, somewhere, possibly take responsibility for these three covers?

We don’t need a task force, a glossy strategy document or a feasibility study costing thousands.

We need three manhole covers secured and residents allowed to sleep. Your future in Terenure Ivana Bacik
