What’s On in West Cork – March 2026

Welcome to the March edition of What’s On In West Cork.
Finally it feels like spring and West Cork is waking from its winter slumbers. There is a good bit of entertainment in this edition. The 63rd West Cork Drama Festival runs from 15th – 21st March. For motor enthusiasts the West Cork Rally will bring a crowd of visitors to the area. Many of the bars are hosting a variety of musicians so there is bound to be something to suit most tastes.

Would you believe there is an annual celebration of the mathematical concept of pi on 14th March every year? Our history columnist, Michelle O’Mahony asks Anyone For A Slice Of pi?
Finally as we are now in the growing season, we have a couple of quick, nutritious, easy recipes from James and Julie at the seasonal farm shop, Connonagh. These are fresh, seasonal, tasty recipes with fairly basic ingredients and are inexpensive to produce.

Wishing everyone a Happy St Patrick’s Day.

It is hard to believe that twelve months have elapsed and here we are with the 2025 edition of A West Cork Christmas.

As I write this, we are enjoying an unseasonably mild November but despite this now is the time to start planning for a simply great Christmas. Bandon Vet, Gavin Russell provides some useful tips for anyone thinking of buying a puppy for Christmas. Remember puppies grow up, dogs have to be exercised in bad weather and you have them for life and not just a Christmas novelty.

As the jumps season gathers momentum, it is interesting to talk with Dunmanway jockey, Gavin Sheehan who is now riding in the UK.

We have competitions for you to enter and festive recipes to try. Michelle O’Mahony, History Consultant indulges in some Christmas nostalgia with an article on toys of yesteryear.

After all the excitement of Christmas, banish the winter blues! David Caldwell takes you through a trip to Malaga – The Gateway to the Costa Sol, which is easily accessible from Cork Airport.

The team at WO Media & Publishing would like to wish you and yours the compliments of the season.

Exams over, school’s out and the high summer season begins in earnest.

Festival season is in full throttle and Clonakilty is looking forward to its annual Street Carnival on 14th June which promises to be a fantastic day out for all the family.

Over June 20th and 21st (the longest day) the attractive village of Shannonvale holds its Summerfest at Phairs Pub. There is plenty of music and on Saturday there is a family fun day with a BBQ. Throughout the whole of West Cork there are plenty of festivals taking place with something to suit everybody.

Over the summer, in conjunction with OM History Consultants we are carrying a feature Summer Sunday Spins around West Cork.
Turn a road trip into a bit of fun with the kids playing I spy, take a picnic and you have a family day out at very little cost.
