🤷‍♀️ This sounds painfully simple and may be something you're already doing, but if you want to start getting sales or making more sales through social media, you have to actually ask for them.

Now, before you start adding "please buy my product" phrases into your captions, here are some examples of what I mean:

1️⃣ Always add a light CTA (call-to-action) into your captions or onto the image itself if it makes sense. E.g. "visit our online store through the link in our bio" or "call-in your order on [insert phone number]".

2️⃣ If you have 'shops' set up on your Facebook or Instagram, make sure you are always tagging your products in the images and tell the reader in your caption that they're there. "If you'd like to try one for yourself, click the product in the image to take you to our online store".

3️⃣ When you are set-up on Instagram shops, you also automatically get access to the swipe up function to redirect viewers to your online store or product catalogue (even if you don't have 10k followers).

☑️ Homework: Take a look at your current social posts, are you always reminding your followers how and where they can buy your products or services?

If not, start with some of the suggestions above and see if it makes a difference.

Just start ⬅️ This was one of the best pieces of advice I got when I decided that I wanted to start a business.

Without hearing it, I probably would have still been busy "perfecting" things like my website (i.e: procrastinating).

When I was starting out, despite having no web dev background, I spent HOURS trying to put together the perfect website.

Being told to "just start" gave me the confidence and peace of mind that I could create something 'good' now, but easily work on making it better along the way.

So, that's what I've done. After over one year in business, I have redone my website (berryandwolf.com for anyone who wants to have a nosy or share any feedback for improvement), and I'm much happier with it now than when I started!

BUT, had I not just started with something in the beginning, I wouldn't have anything at all to build upon now.

So, I'll pass on the same advice and say that whatever you're procrastinating on right now, just start.

🤤 Spend time making your food look good so that when potential customers are scrolling through social media and see your products, they'll get hungry and want to buy some.

Then, you can very seamlessly show them where to buy with a link to your online shop in your bio (hint: if you want to share multiple links, use an app like linktr.ee or milkshake.app)

If you don't know how to make your products stand out in photos, hire someone to take a selection of about 10-20 pictures and images for your brand that you can use on social media.

Encourage customers to tag you in any photos they take as well and ask permission to repost any great ones!

The worst way to create content for your food business is on-the-go!

This strategy might work well the odd time when you're at a food fair, checking out your product in retail, or visiting clients, but when it comes to making sure your content is actually interesting, enjoyable and helpful for your followers, planning ahead is the best way to go.

Finding time for this as a business owner can be tough but look at your typical week or month and take note of where the quiet(er) times may be.

➡️ Here is the bulk content creation process that works for me that might work for you too:

1️⃣ If I'm posting 3 times per week, I'll research 3 topics that I want to talk about for the week ahead.

2️⃣ Once I have those topics in mind, I'll create a graphic or find an image to go with the subject in mind and create all the graphics in one go (on Canva).

3️⃣ I'll upload the images into the scheduler* and write the content directly into the scheduler as well as I go.

This is the most efficient way I find that works for me but try different things to find what works best for you too!

*For Facebook and Instagram, I use Creator Studio - it's free! For LinkedIn and Twitter, I use Hootsuite which also has a free version in some countries.

🌄 We are usually most productive in the morning so why spend that time planning your day?

🕕 A far more time-efficient way to start your day is by having made your plan the evening before.⁣

📝 15 mins before you leave the office or finish up for the day, write down all the tasks you have to do the next day. ⁣

📝 If you're like me, you can also prioritise them in terms of urgency and length of time to complete.

💆 It will feel like a weight off your shoulders and your mind, and you won't have to worry about having forgotten something important or urgent overnight.⁣

When should you jump on a and how do you know if the moment has passed?

🔎 #1: Is the trend based on a single product or a concept as a whole?

For example, I would consider a protein ball to be one product, whereas, a concept like 'keto', 'vegan' or 'gluten-free' are ideas that can be interpreted in many different ways e.g. gluten-free granola, bread, whole restaurants etc. A trend is likely to last longer if it is a concept rather than a product.

🔎 #2: Can you add your own spin on it or would you be mostly copying existing products or ideas?

If it's the latter, you will probably have some success with existing customers but struggle to attract new ones as they will have seen or tasted it somewhere else first. Consider how you can create your own take on a trend before just going along with it for the sake of it. What extra value can you add?

🔎 #3: Have a look online to gauge popularity.

Search using global and local hashtags. It might be something that hasn't reached your country yet so you can be first in line to impress your customers.

😍 Name something better than lazy weekend breakfasts. I'll wait!

I made this Dutch Baby pancake for the first time last weekend using Donal Skehan's recipe and it was glorious!

Have you ever made one? What toppings did you add? Need suggestions for my next one 😁

Sometimes, it can be hard to know what to write about but you should never have to post for the sake of posting!

Below are some suggestions for where you can get topic ideas for your next few social posts.

*Save this post to come back to when you are writing your next posts!

1. What questions do your customers ask you?

This is the #1 way to get ideas for content. Questions that come directly from your customers (existing or potential) can be turned into FAQ's or helpful posts. E.G. Are your products gluten-free? Where I can buy them? Do you deliver to X?

2. Have a look at what your competitors are doing.

While I'm not encouraging you to directly copy someone else's work, looking at what other people in your category or sector have done and what their followers respond well to will give you a good idea of what you can try as well.

3. Look out for what works well in other industries.

For example, what kind of content is getting a good reaction in the fitness community that could also work in food?

4. What's trending right now?

Spending a little time on social media every day will help you keep up to date with new trends. Not too long ago, freak shakes and rainbow-coloured foods could be seen in almost every café. In 2020, TikTok challenges became the norm, and purple started to become a popular food colour.

Do you spend time engaging with your audience?

After creating helpful content, it's the #2 most important task you can spend time doing to grow your business.

The number of followers you have is not important, it's the quality of those followers that determine how many of them convert into sales.

What does being social actually mean though? ⁣

➡️ It means engaging with your audience - spend 20-30 minutes p/day liking their posts, interacting with their stories, leaving comments on their posts (no generic, spam ones though!), and if you genuinely like their page or product, tell them! ⁣

A great time to do this is 10-15 mins before you upload a post and 10-15 mins afterwards to encourage more engagement on your own posts.

More engagement = more people who see it!
