This is a very dangerous burden that our country doesn't need. With so much out-of-control violence in the last few weeks — including multiple murders on Irish streets — this Migration Pact will only add to the problems and make our communities a lot more dangerous.

The EU Migration Pact is due to comes into effect at the end of this month. It was passed by the last Dáil by just 7 votes. Since then, 40 of the TDs who voted for it have either lost their seats or retired.

Under this pact the EU can dictate how many migrants Ireland must take, or how much we must pay if we don't.

When we in Aontú asked Simon Harris how much this could cost Ireland, he admitted he doesn't know.

This is part of a wider pattern. Ireland faces potential fines of €8–26 billion for missing the 2030 emissions targets. The EU Nature Restoration Law imposes further legally binding obligations, with penalties for non-compliance (while the funding mechanism has been gutted and redirected to Dublin MetroLink.

And now the Migration Pact. The EU looks at our GDP and concludes we're wealthy. They won't factor in our housing crisis or the real capacity of our public services.

The newly elected Dáil should be allowed to vote on this before it comes into effect.

Let’s face it, writes Gill Costelloe, everyone loves the feeling of the sun on their face. I certainly did, or at least I thought I did until I nearly died from skin cancer.

I was first diagnosed with melanoma 10 years ago after a friend noticed a mole on the back of my shoulder which wasn’t there before. Thankfully, they removed the mole and a bit of the surrounding skin and five years of clear scans passed.

Then, in 2021, my skin cancer came back with a vengeance. I spent three months on St Anne’s Ward in St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin. While huge advances have been made in cancer care and survival rates are increasing, not everyone leaves that ward and I am one of the lucky people who left it, albeit in a wheelchair.

In Ireland, we tend to make the most of the couple of days of sun we get here and there per year. But when the sun’s not here, people often turn to sunbeds. In fact, around 120,000 people in Ireland have said they use sunbeds regularly or from time to time.

I am one of those people. I was one of those who used to hit the sunbeds to get what’s called a 'base tan' before I went away on a sun holiday. And now I live with terminal skin cancer.

Looking back, it is clear that I put myself at much greater risk of skin cancer by using sunbeds. Did I know they were dangerous when I used them? I guess so, but when you are young, you feel bulletproof.

For me, it isn’t even a question of why we should ban sunbeds. The real question, when we know the damage they do and lives they ruin, is why wouldn’t we ban them?

Record Homelessness in Ireland 🏡🏠🇮🇪

According to the Department of Housing, a total of 17,548 people were living in emergency accommodation in April 2026.

This figure represents another record high, up 31 people from March and a 13% increase compared to April last year.

When so many people — including thousands of children — are in desperate need, leadership must act urgently. Why hasn’t more been done? The Irish people need real solutions and help now.

Fantastic work by Brian and Joanne. This is exactly what Limerick is about. 👏

If anyone can remember Modesty Clothing in Buddy's Lane Fox's Bow? Well this is the new location for Ann Curley and the best thing about this whole story is Ann can open back up as her charity shop "2nd Time Round" and if she does it will be totally up to her, but the option is there for her 2 ☺️

We raised over 700 euros on GoFundMe, which we are now going to use to clean out the building, power Hose the outside, paint the inside, and give it a few touches around as well.

We hope to get all this done within the budget and the goal is to have it all done by next Saturday June 6th.

So far so good

Thanks to Joanne Modesty (In the Photo) and family for opening their doors to Ann and for seeing her way of life continue.

Ann Curelys Story is not over in Limerick Centre but it is only the beginning of a new adventure in Buddy's Lane Fox's Bow😊

Have a good Long Weekend Everyone ☺️

Tragedy in Clifden: Woman Killed Near IPAS Centre

Early this morning, on the outskirts of Clifden in County Galway, the body of a woman in her 30s was discovered near Waterloo Bridge, close to the Waterloo House IPAS accommodation centre.

Gardaí were called to the scene shortly before 9am. The woman, understood to be an Iranian national who had been living in the area for some time and was a resident at the IPAS centre, suffered fatal neck injuries — reports indicate her throat had been cut. She was the mother of two young children attending a local primary school.

A man in his 30s, who knew the victim and was also linked to the IPAS accommodation system (though at a different centre), was arrested at the scene. He is currently receiving medical treatment while in Garda custody. Officers have stated they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident, describing it as a targeted event under investigation.

The scene was preserved for a full forensic examination.

Electric Ireland Hits Families with Fresh Price Hikes as Cost-of-Living Crisis Deepens 📈🇮🇪

Electric Ireland has announced significant price increases effective from July: an 8% rise in electricity and a 7.7% increase in gas.

This latest blow comes at a time when many Irish households are already struggling to keep their heads above water. With grocery bills, fuel costs, and everyday essentials continuing to climb, families are being squeezed from every direction — and now their energy bills are set to rise again.

Ireland already suffers some of the highest electricity prices in the European Union — currently 40% above the EU average. On top of this, more than 320,000 households are currently in arrears on their energy bills, a clear sign of the severe pressure facing ordinary people.

These increases are simply unsustainable for most families. The Government must act decisively by reintroducing energy credits as an immediate support measure. Longer-term structural reforms of the energy market are also essential to bring prices under control and prevent vulnerable households from falling even further behind.

Irish families have shown remarkable resilience through years of rising costs, but that resilience has its limits. It’s time for real action before this cost-of-living crisis pushes more households into hardship.
