Sad news. Our lovely client and friend Hugh Wallace passed away suddenly last evening. He was a power house of a man who always brought joy and fun. A talented, kind and visionary person he was larger than life. We enjoyed representing him and working with him. Deepest sympathies to his loving husband Martin, his colleagues at Douglas Wallace, Animo, RTE and Shinawil and his, many friends. RIP Hugh, we will never forget you. Aileen O'Brien.
HUGH WALLACE, RIP
Hugh Wallace was a founding director of Douglas Wallace Consultants. A member of the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, he also served as President of the Institute of Designers in Ireland and was the recipient of numerous industry and consumer awards.
Hugh’s deep understanding of both architecture and the customer experience made him one of Ireland’s most influential and respected designers, and he brought great inspiration to the team at Douglas Wallace. Since establishing the company in 1980, the Dublin native guided Douglas Wallace Consultants to become one of the country’s leading architecture firms. His vision, his unconventional approach to design, and his ability to bring out the very best in people were the hallmarks of Douglas Wallace’s success.
Hugh’s reputation for creating exceptional living, retail and hospitality spaces was rooted in a distinctive creative vision and bold, confident design ethos. Over the course of his career, Hugh oversaw projects for an extensive portfolio of clients. His work spanned countless residential, commercial, and public buildings across Europe, the UK and the Middle East.
Hugh was consistently fearless in his vision and served as an inspiring colleague and mentor at Douglas Wallace and many people within the profession. He became widely known to the public through his award-winning design work and his long-standing presence on Irish television—as a judge on RTÉ’s Home of the Year and the presenter of The Great House Revival. A regular contributor to radio and television programmes, Hugh was a familiar and much-loved media personality. His passion, creativity and warmth touched colleagues, audiences and his many friends across the country.
