Do you feel LinkedIn is for you? Think it's more like an online CV? A CV as you know is not always read or engaged with. A CV is a one way street unlike LinkedIn which can be a great two way street. LinkedIn works when you use it as a practical space for visibility, connection and so much more. Here are some tips to help:
1️⃣ Write your headline so it says who you help and what you help with. People scan profiles fast. Clear words help them decide if you are relevant without effort.
2️⃣ Use a recent photo where your face is easy to see. People engage more with people, not logos or old images.
3️⃣ Start by connecting with people you have met and add a short note.*
A personal line saying where you know them from builds trust and makes LinkedIn feel a little bit more human from the start.
4️⃣ Spend time commenting before worrying about posting. Comments place you into existing conversations and reduce pressure to create content.
5️⃣ When you post, eg: share real work or a real experience. Specific examples feel credible and invite response.
6️⃣ Keep posts short and focused on one point. Short posts are easier to read and reply to especially on a mobile phone.
7️⃣ End posts with one simple question. A clear prompt helps people move from reading to responding.
8️⃣ Pay attention to replies rather than likes. Replies show what people connect with and guide what you share next.
9️⃣ Use messages to continue a conversation, not to start a pitch. People respond when they understand why you reached out and recognise the context.
🔟 Repeat the same actions for a month before changing anything. Consistency builds visibility and confidence without adding complexity.
*Re: point 3️⃣ How to add a note:
- On desktop, open the person’s profile, click "Connect", select "Add a note", then send your message.
- On mobile, open the profile, tap the three dots at the top, select "Personalize invite", then send your message.
