Cavan County Council has announced Cavan Eco Féile, a two-day festival running October 23 to 25 in Cavan Town.

There's free live music each evening at the gig rig in Tesco car park, with Spirit of Smokie on Friday, Groev and the Highstool Prophets on Saturday, and the Tumbling Paddies on Sunday. During the day, the refurbished multi-storey car park becomes an Eco Fun Zone with family activities, a robotics and fab lab area, and a climate and retrofitting expo, running 11am to 6pm Friday and Saturday.

For anyone in business locally, Friday morning brings a business breakfast at Cavan Digital Hub with speakers from Kingspan, Mannok, Goodbody, and the Cavan Dublin Business Network, followed by an event marking the completion of the National Broadband Plan across the county. There's also a panel series called Why Cavan 2036, looking at the investment and partnerships shaping the county over the next decade, which will be of interest to anyone building a business here.

Saturday ties in with Cavan GAA for a celebration of underage football, and Sunday sees the Gulliver 300 event at Cavan Courthouse, marking 300 years since Jonathan Swift wrote much of Gulliver's Travels in Mullagh.

🎨🇮🇪 VIRGINIA ARTIST’S WORK SHOWCASED IN TOKYO! 🇯🇵👏
Fantastic local news from The Anglo-Celt as talented 18-year-old Anna Towell from Virginia has had her prize-winning artwork ‘Sightseeing’ exhibited at the prestigious 27th International High School Arts Festival in Tokyo.

Anna’s painting was one of just four Irish works selected for the exhibition, which showcased 500 outstanding artworks chosen from thousands of submissions by young artists around the world. 🌍🖼️

A brilliant achievement for Anna and a very proud moment for Virginia and County Cavan. 💙🤍

📚✨ LOCAL ARTIST MARGARET McKENNA LAUNCHES NEW CHILDREN’S BOOK

A lovely local interest story from The Anglo-Celt featuring Munterconnaught-based visual artist Margaret Mckenna Art, whose new children’s book, The Speaking Horse of Cuilcagh, launches tomorrow evening in Dowra Courthouse.

Inspired by the folklore, place names and rich heritage of the Cuilcagh Lakelands, the story follows a young boy named Conor on a magical journey through the region.

🎨 A free children’s drawing workshop takes place from 6pm–7pm, followed by the book launch at 7.30pm.

It’s wonderful to see a local artist bringing the stories and traditions of our landscape to a new generation. 👏📖

🚨 GARDAÍ MOUNT COVERT OPERATION ON CAVAN BUS ROUTES
A local interest story from The Anglo-Celt reports that plain-clothes Gardaí have been travelling on public transport routes across County Cavan as part of an operation targeting suspected drug activity, anti-social behaviour and public disorder.

The operation, run from Cavan Town Garda Station, follows complaints from members of the public and forms part of wider efforts to disrupt the supply chain behind the county’s illegal drugs trade.

Garda Superintendent Gavin O’Reilly told The Anglo-Celt that undercover and plain-clothes Gardaí would be gathering intelligence while also being in a position to respond to anti-social behaviour or disorder.

Recent intelligence-led searches have also taken place in locations including Cavan Town, Cootehill and Virginia.

🚜 TWO CAVAN FARMERS IN THE RUNNING FOR YOUNG FARMER OF THE YEAR! 👏

Great local interest in this year’s FBD Young Farmer of the Year, with Charlie Smyth and Patrick Breslin named among the final six! 🌾🏆

Charlie is a seventh-generation farmer running a 60-hectare dairy calf-to-beef demonstration farm outside Virginia, while 24-year-old Patrick manages a large spring-calving dairy herd on a leased farm outside Slane.

A fantastic achievement for both young farmers and another great reflection of the strength of agriculture here in County Cavan. 💙🤍

👏 Best of luck to Charlie and Patrick in the final — Cavan is well represented!

🏆🏁 WHAT A RESULT FOR VIRGINIA’S ORAN ENGLAND IN WALES! 🏁🏆

A sensational performance from Cavan rally driver Oran England and Sligo co-driver Darragh Mullen, who have secured a Junior British Rally Championship victory on their debut in the series at JDS Machinery Rali Ceredigion! 🇮🇪👏

After starting Saturday 15 seconds behind Luke Constantine, Oran and Darragh produced a brilliant comeback across the daytime stages. By Stage 10, they had overturned the deficit and moved 1.1 seconds into the lead.

It all came down to the final seafront stages in Aberystwyth, with the Irish crew holding their nerve to take victory by just 2.1 seconds! 🔥
