DALL·E 3 is being retired. No DALL·E 4 either. Just... gone.
And it hit me harder than a product update should.
Not that long ago, this was the model: open DALL·E, type a sentence, watch an image appear... it felt like magic. It wasn't even really "in" the chat, we had to pull it in from an external tool every time.
Now it's already being replaced by something built directly into the model itself, no more separate systems, just thinking and creating in one motion.
Here's what's blowing my mind. We call it "new AI" like it's a fixed thing. It isn't. The new thing is already being rebuilt by a newer thing, and that one will be too. The ground doesn't just move once, it keeps moving, quietly, under skills we just finished learning.
I don't think that's something to fear. But I do think it's something to respect.
Staying relevant in any industry in the "AI era" isn't a certificate you earn once. It's a habit you have to keep up with to stay in the game. It's forcing us to stay at a beginner level whether we like it or not. Because the moment we stop, something we were confident about yesterday quietly becomes yesterday's news.
Today, that something is DALL·E 3.
