Google’s Adsense is probably the best way for using a PPC campaign due to its high traffic volume, but not because of its Adsense system. No, indeed similar systems can be found at abundance throughout the web. Google hosts millions of searches each day, meaning that any PPC campaign is bound to find a few customers amongst such numbers.

The chronological way for using such system would be to bid for your primary keyword, especially if your site isn’t organically in the first page of Google and I can be certain that indeed most of you aren’t even close, which is why you are using PPC. Using PPC for your primary keyword is all good and well, but have you noticed how many other websites are bidding in vain for the exact same keyword? You are not the only one using PPC and if you don’t have a certain strategy in doing so you might not even get any results from such system, even though you are paying!

The most popular keywords for a given theme are competed for fiercely. So how do you go about bidding low and minimizing competition for maximum results? Well, you need to focus your campaign on niche keywords.

What do I mean by “niche keywords”? Niche keywords are words and phrases that relate to your site but are undisputed for because they are very specific. For example, if you had a website that sold second-hand furniture in New York City, instead of bidding for “second-hand furniture” or “used furniture” you can be more specific by using “second-hand furniture in New York” and even “furniture New York”. How about “New York furniture” or “furniture delivery in New York”? These keywords are very specific and will generate fewer clicks, but they are QUALITY clicks. These clicks are far more likely to turn into paying customers than people who click on “used furniture”, because people who search for such general phrases could be anywhere in the world and are out of your business range, but they could also just be fishing for prices or undergoing some research. Competing for very general keywords is unwise and unprofitable.

When someone searches for “second-hand furniture New York” you immediately know they are within business range because they live in New York. Making this person far more probable of being a potential customer. Not only are they in New York but they are looking for second-hand furniture within their city, bingo!

Finding the right key phrases are not hard, you just need to really think about what a local customer might type into the search box to find you. The more specific, the better. And you will surprisingly find that with such specific keywords competition will be reduced to almost zero, because your competitors are too busy bidding for popular words! Not only will these keywords provide you with golden clicks but also you are the only choice they will have from these keywords! How better can it get?

Bidding for words that are popular is a waste of time and effort. The key to PPC is knowing when and how to use specific keywords to maximum effect by a careful combination of educated guesses and informed decisions.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is very much a buzz phrase. Often companies looking to learn more about what SEO are baffled at how this new field of marketing can gain them an edge. Well it has been proven time and time again that it definitely can gain an edge over your competition. The problem a business has to assess is whether they should employ a specialist SEO Company or use existing resources within their respective IT Departments or Do It Yourself. This article explores the advantages and disadvantages of each.

In-house & Do It Yourself

Advantages: You have complete control. You can change things instantly. You will learn about the inner working of your website and also learn more about the Internet and how search engines work.

Disadvantages: It is a specialized field and attempting to do it delays the inevitable and allows your competition to gain an edge on you; also you may end up with more problems in the future by getting it wrong. Purchasing these three necessary pieces of software will cost you around USD$900. Also, you will need to have a lot of time to read about SEO, take online courses, like StomperNet, listen to podcasts, like MrSEO podcast and read as much SEO material as you possibly can. For the StomperNet course you are looking at about USD$3000 and miscellaneous of books is likely to run up to another USD$1000. Total for In-house DIY, roughly USD$1500 to USD$4900. Not being experienced enough to know when and what to change. Not knowing how to link build effectively. Not having any time to study and learn enough to make the correct changes and modifications to your website – estimated at about 200 hours of study, learning and analyzing. As SEO takes time to see any results in the search engines it is important to not only learn the required knowledge to implement SEO but also give yourself the time to make tweaks and ongoing analysis. So to setup and configure an average website with 10 static pages it will take you probably 2 days and ongoing link building will be many, many countless days. Also, you need to take your time so that you do not overdo your SEO, spamming and stuffing keywords into pages as this can be as detrimental as not doing anything to the website in the first place.

Hiring an SEO Company

Advantages : You don’t have to use internal staff resources or alter the focus of your business. Hiring a specialized online marketing and SEO Company will mean you have instant access to experts in the field who have a wealth of knowledge and resources. An SEO Company will know the lay of the land without you having to learn what they already know to expert levels. The Online Marketing Company will be your best partner in working towards achieving your online Internet marketing objectives.

Disadvantages: Using an Expert SEO Company will cost you money. It is important to realize that even though you have hired a firm to implement your Search Engine Optimisation you will still need to work in consultation with them in order to market your website online correctly – explaining your internet marketing goals, objectives, deadlines and budgets. Do your research, look at the SEO Firm and its portfolio, case studies and history of successes, ensure it is a reputable firm and don’t be scared to ask questions.

What to Look for in an SEO Company

A decent and reliable SEO company will have a good reputation and a strong presence within the Online Marketing and SEO industry. When you start, I suggest searching in Google for “Online Marketing” or “SEO” within your country or region. Look at the potential SEO firm’s websites, their portfolios and take some notes. Give them a call and see if you can arrange a meeting at their office and in person to discuss details and gather more information. Discuss your situation and how you can best achieve your goals. Take note of their professional nature, their history, case studies and vision for your online presence and also ensure that you are happy with the professional and personal relationship you have with the company representatives as this will be an ongoing one.

While the advantages and disadvantages of optimizing your own website and employing an SEO Company are diverse I think it important to point out that no matter how good you think you are an SEO firm will always be better at SEO. So if you really want to see results, you have very little time then hiring an SEO company is the only way to go. If you have time and some website expertise then you may be willing to put in the time and try doing it yourself. My only thought on this is that you wouldn’t hire a plumber to fix a problem with your car.

When all is said and done, good Search Engine Optimisation will get your website results. It is important to make sure you are making the right decisions in your online marketing as this may well be the lifeblood of your business and is certainly an effective way to promote your business and generate sales leads.

When you first start an Internet business one of the first items on the list, after you’ve written your business model, is getting a domain name. In years past it wasn’t as difficult to find a decent name for your site. Today however, it’s not as easy to get your dot com name. The process of registering a name has improved substantially but the availability for descriptive names is far more difficult. Why is this a problem you may ask? It’s more of a problem for small and home business sites than it is for larger companies. The reason is simple and I can sum it up in one word: money.

Larger companies, especially public companies have the funding to advertise their new sites, therefore they don’t really need to have names that reflect the type of business they are in. I can site a perfect example, Go Daddy.com, has absolutely nothing to do with the type of business Go Daddy is in. But being the largest register of domain names, GoDaddy can advertise on all media levels to get business including buying advertising time on the Super Bowl! If you are starting a home based business on the Internet, I’ll bet that you won’t be buying time on television not to mention next year’s Super Bowl.

Okay, where am I going with all of this? You are on a limited budget when you start your business and you must rely on free traffic to your site, because without traffic you have no business. This is what I described in my article on organic traffic a few weeks ago. In order to get substantial traffic to your site you’ll need to have an optimized site. This all has to do with keywords and something called keyword density. You achieve this by having your most important keywords dispersed throughout your website and your domain name. (See I did come to the point of this article.)

Most SEO, search engine optimization, programs first look at the domain name and your major keywords. They look to see if your domain name and site title have any commonality. If they do your site receives extra points in the SEO algorithm, (a logical step-by-step procedure for solving a mathematical problem in a finite number of steps, often involving repetition of the same basic operation.) I hope that I haven’t lost you here because all of this is very important, especially to home based Internet business owners.

Most SEO programs will constantly refer back to the domain name and those words which match the dominate keyword phrases that you have chosen. When your site is optimized, search engines will pick up your scent, so to speak, and you will have great placement and positioning on searches that have your keywords. All of this amounts to substantial traffic.
