Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission Notifies Electricity Supply Code Amendment 2025 to Simplify New Power Connections

The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has notified the Electricity Supply Code (Third Amendment) Regulations, 2025, bringing important changes for power consumers across the state. The new regulations were published in the Tripura Gazette on February 25, 2026. The Commission said the amendments are aimed at improving the “Ease of Living” by simplifying procedures and reducing delays in getting electricity connections.

One of the key changes relates to the classification of supply voltage based on contracted load. As per the revised rules, low-tension supply will be given at single-phase 230 volts for loads up to 4 kW. For loads between 4 kW and 150 kW, three-phase supply will be provided. For larger requirements, high-tension supply will apply to loads above 176 kVA, while extra high-tension supply will be applicable for loads exceeding 10,000 kVA. This clear categorization is expected to bring uniformity and avoid confusion in supply standards.

The amendment also relaxes inspection requirements for small and medium consumers. The Commission has decided that no field inspection will be required before releasing a connection for applicants with a sanctioned load of up to 150 kW. This step is expected to speed up the process for households, small businesses, and medium establishments. Distribution licensees have been directed to publish connection charges online for such loads to ensure greater transparency.

In cases where inspection is required, the licensee must conduct it within five working days in urban areas and seven working days in rural areas. Consumers who want inspections on non-working days can request it by paying a fee of Rs. 500.

The regulations also define timelines related to Right of Way (ROW) for new industrial or company connections. If no ROW permission is needed, connections up to 150 kW must be released within seven days in both urban and rural areas. If ROW approval is required, the timeline extends to 15 days. For cases involving network extension, the maximum time allowed is 30 days for low-tension connections, 90 days for high-tension, and 180 days for extra high-tension connections.

Another important provision allows consumers to carry out their own service line work through Licensed Electrical Contractors, provided approved layouts and ISI-marked materials are used. To reduce paperwork, the Commission has merged multiple earlier forms into a single consolidated Annexure-1 covering all necessary details, documents, and safety declarations.

More than 58,000 students will appear for the upcoming Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), with girls outnumbering boys in both categories this year.

Announcing the schedule at a press conference on February 23, TBSE President Dr. Dhananjay Gan Choudhury said the Secondary examinations will commence on February 26, while the Higher Secondary examinations will begin on February 25.

A total of 32,404 students will sit for the Secondary examinations, including 14,629 boys and 17,375 girls, reflecting a notable rise in female participation. Additionally, 155 candidates will appear for the Madrasa Alim examination, comprising 129 boys and 26 girls. The Secondary exams will be conducted across 69 centres and 145 venues. Last year, 29,781 students had appeared for the Secondary examinations, indicating a clear increase in enrollment this year.

For the Higher Secondary examinations, 26,411 students will take the tests, including 12,246 boys and 14,164 girls. In a significant development, a third-gender student will appear from the Fatikroy centre in Unakoti district. The equivalent Madrasa Fazil examination will have 85 candidates, including 58 boys and 27 girls. These examinations will be held at 62 centres and 99 venues. In comparison, 21,575 candidates had appeared for the Higher Secondary exams last year, marking a substantial rise in participation.

Addressing candidates appearing for Kokborok language examinations, Dr. Choudhury said existing arrangements will continue, with question papers printed in Bengali script to ensure students can write the exams in the format they are most comfortable with.

On the issue of a possible increase in evaluation allowances, he clarified that any decision will be taken by the board’s governing body once it is constituted, as the authority to revise such allowances rests solely with it.

Sitanshu Kotak revealed that Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir spoke to Axar Patel ahead of the Super Eight clash against South Africa, and added that the experienced all-rounder's confidence would not be affected by the selection call, which saw him miss out with Washington Sundar picked in his place.

"See, obviously, Surya[kumar Yadav] and Gautam [Gambhir] both spoke to him. Which is obvious, whether we say it or not," the batting coach revealed after India's 76-run defeat against South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. "We thought that an off-spinner was needed because three left-handers upfront. We got the wickets in the beginning. Washington didn't bowl in the Powerplay.

"But, actually, he was supposed to bowl in a Powerplay. So, that can change according to the match. For that reason, this combination was decided. And the rest - what you are saying about confidence - Axar is such a player; he has played so much and performed so much, he doesn't lack confidence. It was very clear from him, and from the head coach and the captain, what we are thinking and why we are doing this."

Kotak also admitted the team is in a situation where it may have to rethink on the opening combination and Sanju Samson may come into the equation. "See, basically, if we felt that Sanju's last few innings were low on confidence and Ishan was scoring runs, then obviously you go with Ishan.

"Now we are in a situation where we have to think about whether we need to change anything or if we should still go with the same thing. But yes, it is definitely something to think about. If we have to change something, what do we change and how do we change it?"

Having lost one Super Eight game, India are in a pressure situation with a need to win the remaining two fixtures. But Kotak says the players are used to such situations.

"See, I feel that even in a normal game, if you play in India, there is natural pressure. Any professional - any batsman or bowler - feels it when they are playing. There is more pressure on the batsman because it is a one-ball game. For a bowler, it is different. If he misses one or two balls, he can still bowl a good one.

But with the amount of cricket we play, we have to take that pressure. Everyone has to take it - that anxiety, that pressure. If a batsman does not take it at this level, or if a bowler does not take it, then where will he take it?

"So there will be pressure. That is the whole thing. But there are two matches left. We know where we are. One bad day we had - we have to accept it - we did not play well. And we will have to move forward and try to win the two games properly because we do not have any other option, whether we take pressure or not."
