She's is manifestation of the formless Aadishakti , who's worshipped by lord Shiva himself.

On this day"Mahagauri" is worshipped.
She's the eighth Avatar of "Maa Durga".
Mahagauri Maa is one of the most compassionate side of Maa Durga.
She holds a trident and damru in the upper right and left hand.
She holds Abhaya and vara mudra in the lower hands.
She's mounted on a Bull.
She governs Shukla Paksha (waxing phases of moon) and hence,those suffering from illness of the planet worship her to rid themselves from the adverse influence.
