*14 Police Officers Transferred In J&K; Sujit Kumar Posted IG Kashmir, Tejinder Singh IG Jammu*

Srinagar, Aug 27 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday ordered transfers and postings of 14 police officers with immediate effect.

As per Government Order issued by Home Department, a copy of which lies with, Shri M.K. Sinha, IPS (AGMUT:1996), ADG HQ, has been transferred and posted as ADG CID J&K vice Shri Nitish Kumar, IPS.

Shri Nitish Kumar, IPS (AGMUT:1999), ADG CID J&K has been transferred and posted as ADG Armed Police J&K, against an available vacancy.

Shri Uttam Chand, IPS (AGMUT:2002), IGP (Police Operations & Services) Police Headquarters has been transferred and posted as IGP Railways, J&K vice Shri Vivek Gupta, IPS. The officer shall also continue to hold the additional charge of IGP (Police Operations & Services) Police Headquarters, till further orders.

Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IPS (AGMUT:2004), IG Jammu Zone has been transferred and posted as IG HQ, J&K, against an available vacancy.

EOW Kashmir Chargesheets Man For Cheating Cancer Patient's Family

Srinagar, Aug 25 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has chargesheeted a man for allegedly cheating a cancer patient's family on the pretext of providing medicines at cheaper rates.

In a handout to GNS, the CBK said that, the EOW said that it has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Sub-Judge Srinagar against Afaq Ahmad Thug son of Ghulam Qadir resident of New Colony Hazratbal near Shiwala Mandir Anantnag, at present 10-Green Enclave Barmuni Road Sunjwan Jammu, in case FIR No. 25/2026 under Section 318(4) BNS.

According to the EOW, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the accused cheated the complainant by promising to supply medicines for his ailing wife suffering from cancer at a discounted price. The accused dishonestly induced the complainant to pay lakhs of rupees but failed to supply the medicines.

A probe was ordered and during investigation the allegations were substantiated. It also came to fore that the accused and the complainant were schoolmates in a boarding school more than 40 years ago.

After completion of investigation, the chargesheet has been presented before the Hon'ble Court for judicial determination.

Meanwhile, Crime Branch has appealed general public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report any suspicious activity to SSP EOW Kashmir. Complaints can also be lodged via email at [email protected].

One killed, three injured as flyover collapses in Samba’s Vijaypur

Samba, Aug 25 : A person was killed and three others injured after a flyover collapsed during construction work in the Jakh area of Vijaypur in Samba district on Tuesday, officials said.

An official told the news agency, that the incident occurred when the structure gave way during ongoing work.

He said the injured persons were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, while their condition was not immediately known.

Investigation has been taken up and further details are awaited.

Retired District Judge Mohammad Ashraf Malik Honoured for Contribution to Samadhan Samaroh 2026

Srinagar, August 20, 2026: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has honoured Mohammad Ashraf Malik, Retired District Judge, with a Certificate of Appreciation for his valuable contribution and dedicated participation in the “Samadhan Samaroh–2026” initiative.

The certificate, issued by the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, was presented by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, in the presence of Justice Sanjay Dhar, Justice Rahul Bharti, Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani, and Justice Shahzad Azeem.

The recognition acknowledges Malik’s commendable efforts as a member of the Supreme Court Action for Mediated Adjudication and Disputes Harmonisation Across Nation (SAMADHAN SAMAROH), a Pre-Lok Adalat initiative aimed at promoting the amicable settlement of disputes through mediation and alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms.

According to the certificate, Malik was recognised for his “valuable contribution, dedicated participation and commendable efforts” towards advancing mediated adjudication and facilitating the harmonious resolution of disputes.

The Certificate of Appreciation acknowledges his significant role in promoting amicable settlements and strengthening the process of alternative dispute resolution, thereby providing litigants with opportunities to resolve disputes efficiently and without prolonged conventional litigation.

The honour highlights the growing importance of mediation and alternative dispute-resolution mechanisms in providing parties with effective opportunities to settle disputes amicably, efficiently, and expeditiously outside the conventional litigation process.

*J&K ACB Traps Gazala Akhter, Jr. Building inspector SMC Ward- 28 Srinagar while demanding and accepting bribe of ₹10,000*

Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau received a written complaint alleging that Gazala Akhter, Jr. Building Inspector, SMC, Ward No. 28, Srinagar, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in connection with the construction of two structures, despite the complainant having already obtained the requisite building permission from the competent authority.

It was further alleged that the accused public servant was deliberately adopting delaying tactics by obstructing ongoing construction and causing harassment to the complainant with the intention of preventing him from completing the construction within the stipulated period, thereby putting the complainant under pressure to pay the demanded amount.

Upon receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which prima facie substantiated the allegations. Accordingly, FIR No. 11/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar, and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and apprehended the accused public servant, Gazala Akhter, Jr. Building Inspector, SMC Srinagar, red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10,000/- from the complainant. The bribe amount was recovered from her possession in the presence of independent witnesses, and she was taken into custody.

Further investigation in the case is in progress.

JAMMU, AUGUST 18: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today chaired the 81st Meeting of Jammu Kashmir Rajya Sainik Board, at Lok Bhavan.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command; Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Maj Gen Paramvir Singh Dagar, Chief of Staff, HQ White Knight Corps; Maj Gen KS Dhadwal, Chief of Staff HQ Chinar Corps; Shri Shailendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department; Shri Chanderkar Bharti, Principal Secretary, Home; Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to Lieutenant Governor; Ms. Neena Mishra, Principal Director, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, GoI; Brig. Pankaj Chib (Retd.) The Board deliberated on key issues concerning veterans, Veer Naris, widows and dependents, covering welfare delivery, grievance redressal, healthcare and institutional strengthening. These include establishment of a ZSWO at Kishtwar and improved coordination on pension-related matters.

The Lieutenant Governor reiterated his commitment to the welfare of veterans and their families, assuring that every step will be taken to honour their sacrifices and guarantee a life of dignity.

The Board also discussed empanelment of government hospitals including AIIMS Jammu, GMC Rajouri, GMC Doda and Government Hospital Kupwara with ECHS for enhanced healthcare access.

The Lieutenant Governor also chaired the State Management Committee (SMC) meeting on the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.

The Committee considered welfare-oriented proposals covering medical and health support, infrastructure, outreach, education and skill development.

The Committee also proposed several key initiatives including education and career incentives, psychological counsellors in identified areas, skill-development support and improved welfare infrastructure.

*No need to worry; administration, security forces committed to maintaining peace: Lieutenant Governor*

Jammu, Aug 16: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Sunday said there is no need for people to worry over attempts to disturb peace in the Union Territory, asserting that the administration and security forces are fully committed to maintaining peace.
Sinha made the remarks while responding to demands being raised at a programme of displaced Kashmiri Pandits on security for KP employees in the valley due to recent terror incidents.
"There are many challenges, including the one you mentioned. But I believe there are even bigger challenges that we have to address," the LG said at the annual-day function of the Kashmiri Pandit Volunteers (KPV) here.
He said the biggest challenge in the past was the perception that no one would be willing to carry the national flag in Jammu and Kashmir.



"But you have seen today that there are so many shoulders -- and such strong shoulders -- ready to carry the tricolour. What you have witnessed today is a powerful example of that change," Sinha said.
On recent terror incidents and attempts to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir, he acknowledged that such efforts are being made but asserted that there is no need for people to panic.
"Attempts are being made to disturb the atmosphere again. There is no need to worry. The necessary concerns are being addressed, and this has not started today, such efforts have been underway for some time," Sinha said.
"There are also people who spread rumours. I assure you that the administration and security forces are fully committed to maintaining peace. Anyone who attempts to disrupt the prevailing peace will not be allowed to succeed in their designs," he said.
On a KP leader's demand on enhancement of relief, the LG said the government is making continuous efforts to resolve issues.
"I would like to say, with a full sense of responsibility, that efforts have been made to find a solution and these efforts are continuing.
"While some issues can be resolved, others cannot be addressed immediately. Nevertheless, continuous efforts are being made to resolve all matters that can be addressed at the earliest," he said.
The remarks came after KPV founder Vikram Kaul in his address urged the government and the LG not to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, citing security concerns and the challenges facing the Union Territory, to enhance monthly relief and ensure long term security to KP employees in the valley in the wake of terror attacks.

In pursuance of the directions of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kulgam, in collaboration with the District Judiciary Kulgam, celebrated Independence Day at the District Court Complex, Kulgam, under the chairmanship of Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Khan, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority/Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kulgam.
On the occasion, the Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kulgam, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of all Judicial Officers, Prosecuting Officers, members of the Bar Association Kulgam, officials of the District Judiciary, staff of DLSA Kulgam, Legal Aid Defense Counsels (LADCs), Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs), supporting staff of LADC and other prosecuting officials.

*DC Kulgam leads Tiranga Exhibition, Human Chain and Mass Singing of Vande Mataram marking 100 days of Commemoration of Vande Mataram*

In a powerful display of patriotism,unity and progress,District Administration Kulgam today organized a mega “Great Tiranga Exhibition” on the newly constructed Brazloo-Pahloo Bridge, one of the most vital traffic arteries of the district.

The event was led by the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam,Shahzad Alam in presence of ADC,Kulgam Vikar Ahmad Giri and district officers alongwith participation of officials,students,teachers and citizens from across the district.

Hundreds of metres of the tricolour was displayed and exhibited on the vital Development masterpiece,along the length of the Brazloo Pahloo bridge, transforming it into a vibrant saffron, white and green ribbon symbolizing the spirit of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Tiranga Rally commenced from the approach road and culminated on the bridge, where participants formed an elongated human chain stretching across the structure, holding the National Flag with pride. The sight coupled the message of national integration with the district’s scaling development track — a bridge not just of concrete and steel, but of brotherhood and shared aspirations.

As part of the ongoing nationwide commemoration of “100 Days of Vande Mataram”, the district recorded one of its largest mass singing program till date. Thousands of voices came together in unison to pay tribute to the National Song,Vande Mataram, creating an atmosphere charged with devotion and pride. The rendition was followed by National Anthem and patriotic songs.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam said that such events reflect how development and national integration go hand in hand. “The Brazloo-Pahloo Bridge is a symbol of connectivity and growth for Kulgam. Today, by lining it with the Tiranga and with our people, we have also made it a symbol of unity. When development reaches every village and every heart beats for the nation, that is true progress,” he said.

He further appreciated the students, officials and citizens for their overwhelming participation and urged everyone to continue upholding the spirit of Har Ghar Tiranga.
