Request for Support to an Orphanage/Relief Shelter Operating Without Government or Institutional Assistance

We earnestly appeal for support to an orphanage and shelter that is functioning without financial assistance from the State Government, Central Government, or any other institution.
For the welfare of neglected, exploited, helpless and underprivileged children, women and elderly persons from Balasore and adjoining districts—including children living in slums, collecting rags, polythene and waste from the streets, and those spending nights on railway platforms, bus stands, in front of hotels, and at mines, stone quarries and brick kilns—“CHRDS Karuna Gauri Ashryasthal” was established in 2011 by Sri Ganeswar Rout and his wife, Smt. Sasmita Harichandan Rout, with the support of their family and a few well-wishers.
With permission from the State Government, children are being provided free education up to Class VIII. So far, more than 350 hundred children have studied here and are now pursuing their education in various institutions. Women have also been trained in sewing and other skills, enabling them to become self-reliant.
The institution provides free accommodation, food, healthcare, counselling, clothing and quality education to those in need. While their two daughters are pursuing their education, Sri and Smt. Rout have donated all their movable and immovable personal assets to the institution. They have virtually nothing of their own left.
With their own resources, they have constructed a permanent building for the residents at part of Aktiarpur under Balasore Municipality and part of Haripur Mouza under Remuna Tahasil. Since the construction work is not yet complete, the children have to be shifted during floods to protect them from the danger of inundation.

As there is no any regular government or private financial assistance, the institution mainly depends on surplus food from various functions in around the town areas and used clothing. Occasionally, generous individuals provide food on occasions such as birthdays, marriages and death anniversaries.
The founder, Sri Rout, despite the heat, rain and winter, putting his own health and well-being aside, has been arranging vegetables throughout the year from the daily market at Nua Bazar at very low prices, including vegetables that are damaged or otherwise unsuitable for regular sale.

He also arranges non-vegetarian meals on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Although, due to his age and health, he wishes to reduce his responsibilities, he is unable to do so because there is no adequate support or cooperation from others.

At this critical juncture, we, as the President and Secretary, are responsible for the institution but are unable to do enough to meet its needs due to our oldage & picarious health condition .
The ground floor of the building is getting filled with water and approximately ₹10–12 lakh is required for filling the premises and completing other essential works. We have repeatedly approached the local Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly for assistance but unfortunately, we have been completely disappointed.
Therefore, we humbly appeal to any individual, organization, institution or government agency that can contribute financially, even in small amounts, to come forward and support this noble cause.
With your assistance, the permanent building, constructed with the founders’ entire life savings and assets and involving an expenditure of several lakhs of rupees, can be completed. It would then provide a safe, permanent home for the children as well as distressed women and elderly persons who come here during difficult times.
We sincerely and humbly request everyone to extend whatever support they can. Even small contributions from many people can help this institution survive and continue serving those who have nowhere else to turn.
