🌳 Tree Plantation Scams — The Truth Nobody Wants to Talk About
We all love trees. In Indian culture, especially Hindu traditions, trees are seen as living gods — Neem, Peepal, Banyan, Mango, Coconut. They’re sacred, emotional, and symbolic.
But the irony is painful.
In cities like Bangalore, mass deforestation happens in the name of “development,” and thousands of these “living gods” were cut down without a single major protest. Citizens who worship trees stayed silent when they were butchered.
🌱 The Reality of Replantation
After chopping mature trees, authorities and NGOs perform a symbolic act of “planting saplings.”
The survival rate? Less than 0.5%.
In most cases, these saplings are never cared for, watered, or monitored. They die quietly, just like the idea behind the campaign.
Yet the sentiment around trees is strong — and this emotional weakness has become a goldmine.
💰 Where the Scam Begins
Because people love trees, crooks love “tree planting drives.”
The moment corporations and citizens show emotions, NGOs and self-proclaimed environmentalists show their “business proposals.”
Do you remember the ₹40 sapling scam linked to a popular spiritual figure, where plants procured from the Karnataka Forest Department for ₹1 were resold using CSR money at 40–50 times the cost?
CSR funds worth hundreds to thousands of crores vanished in the name of “saving the rivers” and “restoring forests.”
📊 The Numbers Don’t Add Up
Today, just in Bangalore:
Thousands of NGOs
Each claiming they planted thousands, lakhs, even millions of trees
If you add up all their claims, Bangalore should look like the Amazon rainforest by now — but we all know it doesn’t.
On top of that:
BBMP runs its own ₹500-per-sapling programs
Karnataka Forest Department plants lakhs of saplings every year
So where exactly are these “millions” of trees planted by NGOs?
Why does the survival rate remain so poor?
And why do so many “tree warriors” only show up for photo ops?
🐝 The Only True Tree Planters
The real contributors to afforestation are:
Birds 🕊️
Bees 🐝
Ants 🐜
Insects 🐞
Wind 🍃
Soil organisms 🪱
Nature itself 🏞️
Forests grow without human PR campaigns, without fancy logos, and without CSR money.
🚫 When Planting Becomes a Scam
Planting trees is a noble act. It’s therapy. It’s service. It’s humanity.
But when people do it:
for money
for grants
for awards
for publicity
then it becomes fraud.
Worst of all is the trend of branding their names on naturally grown trees, taking credit for what nature created through pollination. This should be criminalized.
If someone plants trees genuinely —respect them.
But if someone plants lies instead of trees, exposes public emotions for personal gain, and inflates numbers to fool corporates they deserve punishment, not awards.
