Thanksgiving celebrations are in order and so are holiday purchases. Not many activities or campaigns are on the horizon for this thanksgiving season from top brands though. We believe they are stocking up the celebrations for Christmas.

Shake shack’s “Friendsgiving” campaign is a prime example of targeting the right audience. They were well aware of the fact a burger might not appeal to the families celebrating thanksgiving. But to a group of friends; thanksgiving and burger is a perfect fit. So, they targeted those who were celebrating Friendsgiving instead of targeting everyone.

On Thanksgiving eve, a notorious drinking day, Budweiser zero published a campaign encouraging the consumers to Drink responsibly. Budweiser Zero and Uber launched “Zero Hour” at select bars in 30 U.S. cities. People can try a complimentary Budweiser Zero from 12 to 1 a.m. local time and get a free ride home.

Day 02: REI
Closing your shop during a holiday shopping season may sound like a bold yet stupid move. That’s exactly what REI, the outdoor clothing, gear, and footwear company, did during the 2015 thanksgiving season with a campaign titled “OptOutside”. They announced that their outlets will be closed countrywide during the season and they will be paying their employees to spend their time with the family and explore the outdoors.

The campaign was a huge success, it got 2.7 billion PR impressions during the first 24-hours of its launch with social media impressions reaching 7000%.

How are you planning to say “Happy Thanksgiving” to your customers this season?

Last year, we all hoped, 2021 Thanksgiving would be a normal one. I guess this is the new normal now. Health officials have reported, “It's ok to gather for Thanksgiving, just be careful”. And experts have predicted that people are less likely to fly to their travel destinations, compared to the pre covid numbers. But the number of Thanksgiving holiday travelers expected to hit the road is high. And the rest of the population must be planning a virtual family get-together.

Anyways celebrations are in order and so are holiday purchases. Not many activities or campaigns are on the horizon for this thanksgiving season from top brands though. We believe they are stocking up the celebrations for Christmas.

First one to start off - Day 01: Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola is not a Thanksgiving drink per se. We have never seen a coke bottle on a table with the turkey. But Coca-Cola, through this ingenious campaign on Pinterest, got into the Thanksgiving tables. They shared some decoration ideas people can do with Coke bottles, a few tasty recipes with Coca-Cola as an ingredient. Yepp, you heard it right :)
