MS Road and HB Road in Fancy Bazar will become no-vending zones from September 1, with the authorities introducing regulated parking and traffic measures to ease congestion and improve pedestrian movement in the city's busiest commercial hub.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Kaushik Rai chaired a meeting at the office conference hall of District Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro) with senior officials to review the implementation of the decision to declare SS Road, MS Road and HB Road in Fancy Bazar as no-vending zones.

As part of the traffic and parking management measures, it was decided that commercial vehicles will be permitted on these roads from 9 pm to 7 am. Parking of public vehicles will be allowed. Handcarts/pushcarts will also be permitted. Further, it was decided that the same provisions will also apply to SS Road. However, the date for implementation of the no-vending zone regulation on SS Road will be decided separately at a later stage.

|| Dr Mrinal Das, a young researcher and author from Pathsala, Assam, is making a mark in both medical innovation and literature, earning recognition for his work at a young age.

A postgraduate student at Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS), Dr Das has received a Design Registration Certificate from the Patent Office, Government of India, for his innovative medical device, “Cheek Retractor.”

The design was officially registered under Design No. 500506-001 on May 1, 2026, under the Designs Act, 2000. The device was developed through research and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and innovators, with its originality and potential healthcare applications receiving official recognition.

But his achievements extend beyond the field of medicine.
📚 In 2025, Dr Das received the Young Writer Award from the Government of Assam.

✍️ In 2026, he was honoured with the Best Pensmith Award by HS Publications and was also selected among the Top 100 Pensmiths for his creativity, originality and literary contributions.

From developing medical innovations to creating meaningful literature, Dr Mrinal Das represents a generation of young Assamese talent making an impact across different fields.

|| Lodestar-a low-cost, multi-hazard early warning system that brings together technical innovation, Al, process based model ling, real-time sensing, computer vision and community engagement-developed under the bilateral India-Netherlands initiative, will soon be implemented in Guwahati.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota today held a meeting with Prof Anamika Barua and Prof Debanga Raj Neog, Principal Investigators, IIT Guwahati, and the Lodestar team, along with senior officials from ASDMA, GMDA, Water Resources Department and other concerned stakeholders, to review the roadmap for operationalising the dashboard for Guwahati over the coming year.

"For Guwahati, our objective is to develop an operational decision-support system that can identity where flooding is occurring in real time, anticipate where it may develop over 1, 3 and 6-hour horizons, and provide timely, actionable inputs for preparedness and response, Kota said.

|| A***n Goswami, identified by police as a key accused in the case linked to the death of 18-year-old Anwesha Saikia, has reportedly been arrested from Rangajan in Golaghat.

The arrest comes amid an ongoing police investigation into Anwesha's death and the circumstances surrounding her final hours.

Anwesha was reportedly found in a suspicious condition at Gauri Enclave apartment in Dahabara Chuk, Jorhat, on August 14. She was taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), where doctors declared her dead.

The case has sparked allegations of r**e and murder, prompting authorities to investigate all possible angles. Police are examining evidence and recording statements to establish the sequence of events.

The allegations and exact circumstances of Anwesha's death have not yet been established, and the investigation remains underway.

Further details are awaited as the police probe continues.
