In no other country other than India, film actors are given such a prominence, be it the government sector or the corporate sector. Political organizations induct actors to gain the vote banks of their fans and corporates joins the band wagon to increase the customer footprints through these celebrities. In the recent past, there have been cases where celebrities did not have an idea on the product they endorse nor they themselves fully use them be it jewels, cosmetics or any other product.

Uninstalling the apps and down rating the app seems to be a new kind of social rejection!!!, not that this a justifiable response…

At the same time, I hope this gives a strong signal to the corporates to venture in to more creative ways of reaching the users than primarily banking on the super-star status. This will also foster creativity in a country like India providing job opportunities for thousands of people in the advertising segments…

As a start-up organization, I have been questioned by couple of business owners of who will be the brand ambassador to improve the user base!! This seems to be the de-facto standard / expectation for products to gain their credible user base if not the credibility itself. This is not a viable economic channel for most of the start-ups.

Though the government streamlines the start-up procedures and ease of doing business, many start-ups will be side lined from this entry blockage of advertisement spends. Not sure if the government can step in to this aspect!

In a nutshell, I hope this episode gives a course correction opportunity for the corporates and open the doors for start-ups….
